I bought a well used 5015 4x4 at auction early in 2015.  It was smoking a bit but ran good.  Unfortunately it suddenly started knocking and before I could shut it down it blew the left side of the engine with the oil pump/filter right off.  Looks like the #2 piston/rod had a problem :(  I've been looking for a replacement engine.  I can't afford too much because like I said the tractor isn't in the best shape but everything seemed to be working ok before it blew.  I'm will to travel a few hours from NJ.  Will an engine from another tractor fit without too much trouble?  I don't mind some fabrication.  I've seen a couple 5020s for sale but I'm not sure how hard that swap would be.  I really like this 4x4 tractor and it was going to replace a couple of my smaller simplicity garden tractors.

Stick you a 125 in it. Easy to find, cheap to fix and find parts for and they everywhere. Just have a machine shop make you an adapter plate and might need to do something different with the clutch. Rick Corder can prolly help you figure that part out. Be alot easier to get started in them cold Winters too. Just a thought.

I have a good buddy with a machine shop so that's not a problem.  I heard that the motor is part of the frame on these machines so I don't know about that part. 

What exactly is a 125? ;)

Just need to use your imagination and your buddy's machine/fabrication skills. It will fit I'm sure. Just gotta take that leap of faith in yourself. Good planning and research helps alot. A 125 is an engine found in most B,C,CAs.

That whole tractor would need to be butchered to try to make it run with a 125 4 cylinder engine.  Making it LOOK like a tractor after that is another adventure!

I don't really mind butchering it because the overall condition is a little rough anyway.  Just need to do it for around $1000 or less, that's the tricky part.  If I'm going to spend more than that I might as well sell it for parts and find another one in better shape.

If you are set in re-doing it, if you start with say a kubota motor, you might find one that'll bolt right up, I don't know.  My bet is that they prolly had a standard bolt pattern for several tractors, like the massey and hinmoto...
