Anyone having experience with mounted corn picker operations please advise . Or share your experience. Or PM and we can exchange phone numbers. I will grease all the cogs and gears, lubricate all thr chains and verify everything is free and turning before I install the shoot/elevator. I am only vagly familiar with corn picker operation so this will most likely be a steep learning curve....In both operation and maintenance.

What model picker is that Benny? I will see if my friend Kenny has a manual for it. Have a lot of pull behind picker hours but not a mounted picker. I would say it will be very dusty so a mask would be helpful. You will be up close and personal to see what’s going on.

I know they made 150, 170, 190 but figured the whey went with the D15, D17, D19.

My only experience driving a mounted picker was as a ten year old steering the front wheels of our Oliver 880 and mounted New Idea picker with locked up transmission dragged backward as the hitch was chained to our IH 806 to lift the Oliver rear wheels. My father was helping pick corn for the neighbors who didn't have or their picker was broken down. The Oliver and picker were less than fifteen years old at the time. Apparently the trans gears did that on those tractors. It was an all day adventure getting that tractor home.
Make sure to put a bug screen over the radiator for the dust and corn debris. Some of the tractors had engine side shields to protect from dust catching fire.
Mounted pickers are great for opening up fields.

I have run a 17 picker on a D17, a 227 JD picker on my WD45, and pull type New Idea pickers. Start out slow and easy. Make sure all grease fittings "take grease" all chains are oiled. Sit on the seat, get used to the noise it makes. As I said, start out slow and listen to the noise she makes when she's working. A lot of time, they will tell you when something starts to wrong.

Make sure all grease zerks take grease. BUT slip clutches that have a zerk get 1 pump only with a hand pump gun. First 4 or 5 years I farmed used my M farmall w/ 2M picker (the 1 with center snoot that turned with the steering). 1 6x10' wagon & luckily it had an extendable tongue & hoist for unloading. This is when I learned to NOT over grease a slip clutch, I it did even after dad and grandpa warned me not to.

That is a good looking unit! Best of luck with it. I don't believe it's a 190 as I have one and I don't see a couple things. I was in Northern Ill Friday and saw a mounted picker on a WD45 and stop by and talked to the fellow for a few minutes.

Very nice! Its a model 150 picker, very rare. Im betting its all a D15 wants.
Make sure the stripper plates are adjusted correctly. A screen over the radiator is necessary. A manual would be good for you to get the basic adjustments.

Is that picker on a D-15 or D-17? I had a 150 picker on a WD-45 years ago and in good corn, first gear was too fast! That style picker was a national corn picking champion back in its day.

I have a 150 picker like yours on a D15. The D15 handles it okay. I use it to pick a few acres of popcorn every other year. Only disadvantage is the high sides, you almost always need to stand to turn. Mine does a good job.

Initially when the 150 and 170 pickers came out they didnt have the flappers in the throat to help the material through. As far as I know there was an update kit to add these to the pickers. I have never seen one without them. I have also read that the 150s and 170s only had 2 gathering chains but I think they all have three? Id like to find the bulletin for those updates but have yet to see one. I have seen on a few 170s and 150s you can see the model number decal behind the shields on the left hand side. When the updates were installed those decals were covered up. I have never seen a model decal on a 190.
As far as differences, the 190 had some updates to the stalk extractor shields on the top and I think the husking bed was a little different. The cylinder mount is different. The cleaning fan was in a different location on the 190s. The 150 was designed to be mounted on the D14 and D15 tractors. Very few were built. The 170 was meant for the D17 and the 190 could be mounted on a WD, WD45, D17 and D19. If my memory is correct they built 250 model 150s, 750 170s and 1000 190s.
I do have a parts 190 machine if anyone needs anything.
