Does anyone know if Mack had provisions for some else to make his fire rings ?
Or is that specialty part gone with our friend .

if you are referring to the fire rings for the 262 diesels, they were steel wire not cast as i bought a set. i doubt they will be available now that mack is gone

I've never seen what he used, but always assumed it was "Lacon" ring material. Basically a round wire of a certain diameter (thickness) cut and welded together at the tips to fit exactly where the A-C fire ring would go. If the original fire ring was say .080" in height, I'd suspect he was using .100" wire, so it would crush down to somewhere close to that .080". The thicker wire would help make up for the sleeve being sunk in the block. I do not know what size wire he was using.

I am sure you are correct.
Not sure were I got the idea they were cast.
I have a set here somewhere that I bought but haven't used.... i do remember them being round and welded.
Finding them is another chore. I moved 800 miles from Ga back to grandpa's farm in Pa. 2020 with most of my tractor stuff.
Was very organized in Ga. not so much in Pa. 😀

I could not tell you the material or the exact thickness but yes you have the jest of it. goes in place of the original fire rings. one thing I can say, we had our block machined and all sleeves set to +.004. When using the fire rings, i could not get the head gasket to seal the water and oil passages and had water in the oil. went to a different gasket and same situation. could not get it to stop leaking. ended up going back to the oem fire rings and the D19 has been purring like a kitten for several years now. IMO the combination of +.004 and fire rings was to high to seal rest of gasket. So saving the fire rings for the future when the sleeves drop.

I have fire rings made for lots of different applications, and did have some made for the 262, as well as the solid shim steel head gasket. They quit making their gaskets, so I kinda quit getting as many fire rings. Not sure what Mack was having them made to for dimensions. The ones I had made initially were .070" wire. Did have one customer who had several sleeves sunken in, and I ordered for him several different wire diameters based on his level of sinkage lol! That was a one off deal. So after that I have not messed with those too much. Mack gone may have to step back up lol! We truly lose an extreme wealth of knowledge when the older guys retire!
