I have a wd with 5:14-1 ratio
7 tooth pinion 36 ring.
My research says a standard wd is 3:58-1. 12-43 ring and pinion. It is a 52 wd78606.
What is the standard ratio?

hmm, all I know is that a 6 volt( early) D-14 has a different set of gears than a 12 volt (later) D-14. maybe one of the online parts places have the 'numbers' ??

I've got the actual gear numbers at home. WD45 gas is 3.3 to 1........old WD is 3.6 to 1........D-17/WD45 diesel is 3.9 to 1. I have heard of a "corn picker" transmission for old WD's, but never seen one. A better idea would have been boost the engine HP, put a larger sprocket on the PTO shaft and throttle the engine back a little keeping the same gear ratios.

Make sure you count it a couple times as it is very easy to miscount. Not inferring that you can't. count. 46 ring and 7 pinion is 6.57 ratio. 12:43 is 3.58 as you said.

Fat fingers ment 36 tooth ring gear. Stamped on it. 5:14 ratio. I have heard of cornpicker gears back seems like Noone knows.

My service manual says 3.5 to 1 for WD and 3.3 to 1 for WD45. Does not have tooth count or at least I haven't found it. And that is how they list it. Do not give the 2nd decimal place. So sounds like that 12 to 43 should be the one for the WD.

Old WD's are 12 x 43. WD45 gas are 13 x 43. D-17/WD45 diesel are 9 x 35. I would calculate instead of low gear being 2.50 MPH it would be 1.63 MPH with a 5.15 R & P.

I have 38" wheels on it and in high gear it only does 9.3 mph.
