Discovered these cracks in the oil bath air cleaner housing on my
D17. Crack starts on one side of the mounting bracket, goes behind the
bracket and comes out the other side. Makes it hard to effectively
repair the cracks. Anyone else ever run across this?
Does
the location of the cracks allow unfiltered air into the engine or is
the air still going through the oily steel wool part and being cleaned? |

Air leaking thru the crack is not pulling the oil up into the steel mesh strainer. Air is entering the SIDE of the strainer and your probably getting a percentage of "cleaning"... possibly not 100%... but some.. Depends on where the cracks are at.. Your at the BOTTOM and a long way from the OUTLET .. that helps.
