Wife looking at new traverse. It has a 1.5 engine turbo charged. Have not drove it yet.  Does anyone have any good or bad about this engine? I had not heard of the 1.5 until wife looked at online. TIA Gary

The wife's 2019 equinox has a 1.5. Good on gas, not a powerhouse but adequate. So far no trouble with 22000 on it. My biggest complaint is the stop/start can't be disabled. Maybe it can be on the Traverse? It hasn't caused any problems yet, it's just kind of annoying but you get used to it.

Gary we sold a bunch of those when I worked for the car dealership. They were very reliable, but I don't remember that motor.

been around for about 5 years.......

GM 1.5-Liter Turbo I4 Ecotec LFV Engine

The LFV is a turbo-charged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine produced by General Motors for use in a broad range of vehicles. The LFV is part of an all-new engine, modular family of engines due to launch in the 2015-2016 timeframe.

Details

Known by its LFV production code, GM’s new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Ecotec represents a new generation of four-cylinder engines designed for high efficiency and brisk performance. The LFV made its debut in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and subsequently in the 2018 Buick Regal Sedan for the Chinese market.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I'll jump in here with some limited knowledge/experience with GM twins to this vehicle.  One is a 2012 FWD and the other is a 2017 AWD both with 3.6 L non-turbo V6 without stop/start.  Not sure when but I think GM got away from those smaller engines in that size vehicle.  If economy is your goal they may be OK but definitely smaller and perhaps under powered.  If highway traveling with a load it may be working hard although your mileage may be better.  I think they went back to the 3.6 engine is all of that sized vehicle and for the most part is trouble free.  It will shift-down on long hills as opposed to the old 3.8 L GM engine which would go right over without shifting.

Being old as well as old school I brake with my left foot.  So when driving start/stop loaners-the only way to defeat start/stop is with slight pressure on accelerator.  Sometimes I let them stop and then start them again when I know traffic is going to move.  The 3.6 engines won't get great mileage in town or on short trips but on the hwy at an average of 75 they will get 22 to 23 MPG.

As a sidebar, I have narrow garage doors and need power folding mirrors which are getting harder to find in the GM lineup.  Good luck in your shopping and take my comments as just personal opinion/experience.

Speaking of driving with both feet, mt 92 year old mother drives her Cadillac that way and you just know not to get in front of or behind her. Screeching stops and burning rubber for sure but I'm NOT going to be the one to tell her to quit driving.

I drove a Traverse for a while as a loaner, and I HATED it, HUMUNGOUS blind spot for the driver, and next to useless access to rear seating for a family compared to say a minivan.

Seems awfully small engine for a vehicle that size, but that's the trend.

Good luck in your decision.

two things I KNOW about the Qashqui...
1) dealer installed remote start wasn't done right..might not start ANS could also drive it without a key inteh ignition...

2) have NO idea HOW to get to the battery. It's under a LOT of plastic air intake parts...

Surprisingly, it's actually roomy inside for hauling 'stuff'....

On my wife Ford Escape if you push the brakes hard the engine dies when you are at a stop light or sign if you just push hard enough to just stop the vehicle it doesn't die.

Wife bought a new Equinox 18 months ago. 1.5 engine seems snappy to me but I'm not an overly aggressive driver. I was under the impression there are also other engine choices available in the new GM products depending on the model and trim package ordered?

Go with a 3.6. You may be better off. Just what I have seen and my opinion.

Wifes Traverse is 2011 w/3.6 ,6speed auto. Very surprised by performance of engine. Can light em up at any stop, shifts at 7000rpm and gets there quick! Kinda fun to drive if you want to push it. 16-18mpg short trip driving. I weighed it once but forget how much. heavier than I thought.
Mechanic said that 1.5 won't  pull itself in for repair when turbo blows.

We have a FORD with the same transmission and Fords 3.5 L motor... nice size for car as mentioned above.

A Track Record of Success

This new agreement marks the third time in the past decade that GM and Ford have collaborated on transmissions.  These collaborative efforts have enabled both companies together to deliver more than 8 million durable, high-quality 6-speed front-wheel drive transmissions to customers around the globe.

Ford installs these 6-speed transmissions in some of America’s favorite vehicles, such as the Ford Fusion family sedan, the Edge crossover and the Escape and Explorer SUVs, while GM installs them into a variety of high volume, award-winning products like the Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Traverse, Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Cruze.
