Auction time has an allis chalmers M4 prime mover coming up for auction. I never knew that Allis made such an animal. It has a 4 cylinder, 2 stroke detroit in it, it rides on rubber tracks, has a fifth wheel plate, air for semi trailers, two pintle hitches, and a big ole winch on it. I wonder what it has for a transmission? Anyone know? Check it out; it's pretty cool. Also referred to as a sand hog. Darrel

Long ago jus Outside of Rolla MO an old fella had a scrap yard and had to have had a dozen of these sitting along I-44. Back in the 70's he passed away and they all disappeared.

What's another water line going to do. I think you already got the aquafer sucked dry. I suspect that the next step may be to run a line from the Missouri River. Darrel

I am a little confused, too, Charlie. Son was doing some looking at them on the Internet, and it said that they have a Waukesha gas engine in them. I suspect that they made them either way. Darrel |

Allis Chalmers manufactured a M6 prime mover as well. It weighted 76000 LBS and was powered by 2 Waukesha 6 cylinder gasoline engines 190 HP each. Top speed 21 mph. Designed to tow heavy artillery such as 8 inch or 240mm M1 howitzer's. How would you like to have them rumble through your neighborhood ?

once you get onto auction times website, the first thing coming up should be construction equipment, followed by the most popular brands listed, then below the brand names is "more". Click on that, and many more brand names will pop up; one being allis chalmers. Click on allis chalmers, and it should be right there. Darrel |

As said, gas engine from the factory.... post war these were sold a surplus to mining/logging/construction , were repowered with everything under the sun, chopped up and welded on and are now far from what they were. An awesome machine!, there are several restored ones in the central US, and are very expensive to restore to factory condition.

If you search on youtube the one in Nebraska came from the Chambers NE phone company. they used it back in the day to install telephone lines. They repowered it with a cummins and it got sold to a local kid there who posted videos on youtube of him driving it.
