I too enjoy hearing those stories. I was at a huge wedding last weekend and there were lots of guys and gals just a tad older than me, all really throwing drinks back. No telling how many hundreds of gallons were drank...multiple kinds of beer, whiskey, vodka, everything was at their disposal. The young guys kept shooting flack at me for not drinking, and I wanted to tell them to f*** off, but I didn't want to cause a big fuss before the wedding. Those were the most 2-faced bunch of guys I've ever seen...drunk and rowdy one minute, then true southern gentlemen around their elders a few minutes later. My 93 year old great-aunt was there, and she told me how disgusted she was about how how this was playing out. Guys, gals, all full of the hooch, downing one right after another. Nothing classy about a girl who acts that way, in my opinion.

Creston, guys (and gals) like you describe are like the brats in school that take a good thing and ruin it for the rest of us. People like that use alcohol for an excuse. "The beer made me do it". BS! If you're an a55hole, you're an a55hole, and you rely on telling everyone, "Sorry, I was drunk."
I've drank alcohol since before I was supposed to. Been a very long time since I drank "too much" (whatever that is, different for different people), but there were times where I did. Still in all, never been in a fight, never treated a girl like crap...never.....well you get the idea. I still enjoy alcohol. Cold beer after a long hot day is a reward of life. A couple of slow relaxing Jameson's or a nice Scotch is also a treat. 2 or 3 of anything is plenty, and I hope I never have to give it up. A wedding reception or other such event, will drink more beer than usual, but nobody becomes a belligerent loud a-hole. Good for you though. I never pressure anyone to drink or not. To each their own. |

I know what you mean TBone. The alcohol didn't make them act that way, I could tell that's just how they were. Maybe the alcohol made it a bit worse, though.
I have some friends in their 60s who often drink close to a case of bud per day, and it never affects them a bit. I don't mind folks like that, but when the others abuse it I just don't like it.

X2! Wise decision on your part, Creston. I wasted a lot of time and money on alcohol before I quit in '84. Have no problem with someone having a beer or two or a drink or two but just don't take it to excess. As for the ones in their 60's that consume nearly a case per day it may not affect them now but it will affect their health later on.

Yes Creston, wise beyond your years. You've got a good head on your shoulders and a lot of knowledge that you can't get out of a book. I'm glad to be your friend! I'm proud of you.
Shameless, I'd go with the butt UP. Think of it as this,,,,,,,,the dark meat is always the most moist and the white usually dry. When I do a turkey on my Weber grill, I put the breast DOWN and it is always nice and moist but so is the dark meat. On a beer can chicken, you have the beer evaporating thus adding moisture all the time. On a smoker, with the moisture content being drained toward the bottom (gravity), it would dry out. That is just my thoughts,,,,,,,,,I've never done one on a smoker....but it makes sense to me......right Joe? And my Grand Pa used to say; "Candy is dandy, but sex won't rot your teeth". |

Creston, you keep on spending your money on tractors and combines, and keep on leaving the hooch alone. Every morning when you wake up, you have stuff out in your yard (or shed) that you can see and has value. That business of having to go to the lagoon to see where your money went to is sad. I've been there and done that, am not proud of it. I could have a lot more allis stuff for what I spent on booze, and allis stuff won't leave you hung over. For me, running a perfectly tuned piece of orange equipment will bring me more satisfaction than the best drunk I was on ever did. And I've seen the picture of the girls you picked up with the lil ford tractor. Them's better than bar room chicks! LOL! Keep up the good work
