Herd Seeder M-96 Old type

   OK, was more or less given an old Herd M96 seeder. If it would work, could be used by me to frost seed clover, lespadeza, etc. It seems to be mostly intact and operable......even has the mounting brackets and lid. What it does not have is the drive shaft.  Have turned the place over several times looking for it, but no joy. 

This one is placed on the drawbar, held upright by brackets. The original drive shaft was a sleeve that slips over the drive shaft, then use 1 of the 2 pulleys to drive the spreader. Connects with a belt, tensioned by gravity. 

As wild as it sounds, there is a guy selling this exact drive shaft on ebay......BUT......he does not have the pulley assembly to use on it.

So long shot.......anybody have one they would part with? For old stuff like this, I generally try to keep it true to original design if I can. 

BTW, called Herd and they would sell me the new style drive shaft ........for about $300. Can probably buy an entire seeder for that.

	I have new version of that. Use it on a side side or a 4 wheeler. It has DC motor to run off the battery. Beside the fan to spread it has little wire finger keep seed from bridging, works good. Never worried about the spread, as we run squirrel bait. As the state of Calforny says bait must be spread with a calibrated device. No more hand flinging of poison to control ground squirrels. The bait is generally oat grouts which are lite and fluffy. I would say 20 foot swath would be max for seeding. But clover could be denser and could spread better. But just a guess.

	I have the newer style too and use it to seed waterways. Found that according to the directions if you spread light or small fluffy seed that you should mix oil dry with the seed as a carrier. Amazing how that evened out my spread pattern
