 Topic: Gauges from Diesel to WD-45 Gas

I am wondering if you can use the Temperature gauge from a WD-45 Diesel or ANY D series to a WD-45 Gas radiator? I want to extend my gauges ( both the oil and water ) so I can see them better. I can make a cowling that they would fit into, much like the one on the WD-45 Diesel and put it somewhere in easy sight range.
Has anyone else done this? Or thought about doing it? TIA, Ted

Yes. But i acualy put the temp prob in the head back water cover and used a brass plug to put into the radiator. Since that water temp hole wasnt going to be there any more.

I used a diesel gauge pod and a custom hooh from Huvelton tin shop in New York. It has no water temp hole no air cleaner hole and a factor size diesel hole 1 inch faward in the hood.

Ted;on top of the head there is a cover plate at the back end.This is where E Gleaners put the sending unit.D17 might be the same.WD's used both water outlets on head for thermostat housing manifold.

This may or may not be a problem, but when I bought a new oil pressure gauge for my D17D, there were 2 different part numbers. One for gas one for diesel.

You can use the electric gauges out of a gleaner and mount them whereever you like. Placement of the sending units is easier since you only have a wire to run.

With D17 Dave's thoughts, you could set the gauges right along the traction booster gauge under the fuel tank... Or set gauges on the battery box or..Where ever.
On my old 45, The temp gauge is dead so that gives me ideas now.
As a side note, I set an old Niehoff backlit amp gauge in the place of an A-C amp gauge and it is really cool to see that at night lit up down there. Another thing I had done to mine (changed it to Alternator so now don't need switch for HI/low charge) was I figured out the light switch that was in the tractor and have it set up that when its all the way in the lights are off, first pull the origional headlights and tail lites are on and all the way out, the auxillary lights come on too. I have a switch on the work tail light to turn it off so just the red fender light stays on when front lights are on.

For gauges that still say AC on them, look for them in some junk yards. I'd suggest buying the whole instrument panel so you see how they are wired and you can take your time removing them as even in a cab the studs may be slightly rusty. Someone in a hurry could ruin a really good faced gauge. You'll need to make sure you get the sending units also. One's not worth much without the other. I can look on some of mine to see what value the oil sending unit is. This way you can source a new replacement from any automotive parts place. The temp isn't marked but with an ohm meter and some patience you can find out what that one is too. I'm sure they are still avaliable through agco. If you get the instrument cluster you'll get the old style ignition switch too.
