Why is there a half inch hole in the top of the frame over the special low gear transmission of the Allis-Chalmers "G"?  It would seem that water, dirt, yellow jackets, and all other sorts of unwanteds would enter via that uncovered opening.  I'm in the reassembly process of a complete restoration and puzzled.  Hopefully one of you has an answer for me.

If you mean the hole right behind the seat bolts it's where the wiring runs through the frame on mine.

Thanks for responding.  I realized, after threading a stiff wire down that hole, that the hole in question led  forward into the main frame and would not allow any unwanted debris to enter the special low gear housing.  I'll check pictures of other restorations and employ it for the wiring as you indicated.  This restoration of a 1948 "G" has become far more of a project than I first expected, and costly too.  Thanks again for your input.
