Bought a new G, works great but it makes a squelching sound sometimes when the clutch is let out. What is the problem?

I would be looking at the bearing first.

Maybe mice from setting too long. LOL I just recently got a G and am learning about it slowly. When I pulled my starter off there musta been a 3 gal bucket full of mouse nest in the flywheel housing. You might want to take a look. I don't know if there is an inspection cover underneath these little buggers but maybe someone else will chime in here.

It may just be from sitting. Mine sat in a shed for 15 yrs. before I bought it. had the engine and clutch out of it and the flywheel was a little rusty, could just be the case with yours. Take it for a ride or give it a job and work it a little and see what that does for it. Mine is still a little jerky when you first take off, nothing that will hurt. Check the free play too make sure it's not to tight. Needs to be about a 1'' of free play.

My guess is the pilot bearing.

There is a sheetmetal cover plate held on with 2 bolts on the engine side of the fly wheel housing near the bottom that you can take off and see in the bottom. I took it off and left it off and the mice don't build a nest in mine now. JB

I don't know what causes it but when you find out let me know. I have three, they all do it, one of them is my mower tractor and has a 42G Woods on it. I've used it that way for almost 30 years and it still squawks when you let the clutch out. I figure it can't be too much of a problem because I've never had any clutch trouble. The other two tractors are the same way I just don't use them for any serious work.
