and is still sending back information and responding to commands! after 45 years of operation.
Currently, it takes 20hours and 33 minuets for a transmitted signal to travel between earth and the spacecraft.

If they don't know WTF it is, it's a UFO... Here's the fascinating part... Voyager 1's data processing capacity is roughly the same as that in the CHIP that protects ONE 'vape stick' 18650 battery... or mebbie not even THAT much. It's technology that is now so far antiquated Two systems (plasma spectrometer and photopolarimiter) are defective... 5 systems currently disabled (for any one of many reasons, including power conservation), 4 are still grinding onward. Digital computers they are... and they haven't had any 'upgrades' in over four decades... still operating. I can't say that I've got ANY computers here that have survived 10 years without suffering some pitiful failure, but the most frequent 'failure', is 'operating system upgrade'... It's a good thing today's 'tech' environment wasn't designing Voyager.

And when that signal gets back to earth, it is a 1/0000000000th of a watt, in power.

"
If they don't know WTF it is, it's a UFO..." Dave, I think you'll need to supply us with some proof that the aliens that Voyager 1 will/has encountered speak English for us to believe they call it a UFO.

All the while, Voyager 1 is just zipping along at 38,000 mph travel speed. So when earth receives one of its signals, Voyager has already traveled 779,000 miles further… Edited by AC7060IL - 29 Feb 2024 at 6:18pm |
