Sorta Orange related as they were filters for my tractors and truck....

I thought I would take advantage of NAPA's big filter sale, so I took in my list and bought a box full of different oil, fuel and hyd. filters. When he told me the total was $259, I didn't think it was much of a sale....so when I got the receipt I started looking at the  prices (regular and sale) and noticed one, a fuel filter for the Dodge was listed at $39.99....I told the guy crap I paid half that the last time I bought one at regular price! I told him that wasn't much of a sale....and wondered where they came up with the list price as I had heard that NAPA has around 5 pricing levels. He plays around with the computer awhile and said it must have been messing up somehow and that those prices aren't right.....after he re-enters everything again he gives me the charge slip to sign - for $129 and said he was sorry for the mixup... Sooooo, you might want to pay a little more attention to prices at NAPA.  I don't know if it was an honest error, or if something fishy is going on.

My NAPA guy treats me right, and I get the jobber price, but I know what you mean.

I figure that a sale means that is for sale, not that the price is special or lower.

That's the way NAPA works.  If they know you and you go their a lot and they give you jobber price it's a nice place.  The NAPA in Ohio I went to was like that and it was great.  If I go in a NAPA now they don't know me and charge me list.  My dad doesn't like them cause he says one guy can walk in and pay x for something and the next guy pays y.  I don't like it either if I'm the wrong side so I don't go there anymore.  My bumper to bumper is local and prices are ok.

I have been going there for most of my stuff now.  Not all, but most of the parts they have are still US made.  The guys that work there are very knowledgable, and if they don't have it, they can get it in a day, or they will look between some of the other stores and find who has it in stock.  I get their good price too as I go there alot.  It also helps that we have swimming lessons for the girls in the winter just up the road on Saturdays so it kills some time after I drop off one girl and wait the half hour for the other girl's lesson to start.

My grandpa owned a NAPA store for 20 years. He was the first NAPA store to have computerized ordering and restocking.  He would disown me if he heard me say I have never had good luck with much of their stuff. We got 3 parts stores in our town of pop. 2000 and county of 5000.  NAPA is usually always higher and almost never cheaper. I end up going there for my immediate repair needs because they have a bigger inventory than the other two guys. If it is something I can wait for I order it from one of the other guys.
Over the years I have bought some of their premium products and got no better life out of them than cheaper their parts per dollar spent. Examples are 200 hr parts for $20 compared to 100 hr parts for $6.
As far as pricing. I got no problem with them giving better prices to volume customers. We  do the same thing at our buisness.

I haven't had much trouble with NAPA now that i have there books so i can look up my own parts. The kids that work there can't find anything unless it's in the computer. Two of the older guys that work there are good and usually find what i need. But now Napa moved 2 miles down the road so im going to Carquest which i'm finding out is usually cheaper than what Napa was with there Jobber price.

most all auto parts stores have multi-level pricing.  my local napa guy at home gives me good prices, but the one near work jacks them up. a few years ago, my home store got me an 8 volt battery.  a couple of weeks later, i needed another, and went to the napa store near work.  $20 more for the same battery.  its the last time i was in that store.  alan

I know most members have seen this site for NAPA / Wix filters, with planting season just around the corner you may want to run some of your filter prices on this site. My NAPA dealer now has us on national pricing so he did not loose the business to Fleet Filter.

I know Napa prices have taken a big jump in the past few yrs .Two yrs ago I bought 30 gaskets for the sediment bowls just to have in stock and I think I only paid 50 cents for them .I used my last one a week ago and wanted to order another 30.The price was now over $3.17/ gaesket.I told him to check that again and he did  that was my price . I understand oil has gone up and shipping but  those gaskets can t take that much oil to make to justify a price increase of that much.Walmart is another place that has jumps prices real bad and you drive 10 miles to the walmart north of me and the prices are alot lower but they haven t  remodeled yet

This is kinds off topic but related to NAPA ,I needed a timing belt kit for girlfriends PT Cruiser -long story but our friends at Chrysler changed idler pulleys about 3 times and this one had old style and to upgrade costs about $300.00 -possibly more than car is worth- after searching far and wide I find our friends at NAPA had old style kit and instock for $219.00 and after talking to the parts person -kindly telling him it was more than car is worth my price lowers to $105.00 . I guess it pays to B/S with them and not get in a hurry to pay list price . Thats my story and Im sticking to it

I seldom go to NAPA anymore for the same reason.  About the only time I enter their store is to get a filter or something on Sunday after draining the oil and discovering I didn't have one. I usually go to an independent parts place owned by a school classmate.  I know they do the same thing with several prices but I probably spend an easy $200 per month there so I think (hope?) they give me a good price.  I know the filter prices are 40 to 60% cheaper.
