Any one here have any experience with them? I'm looking at a SM 70 hopefully cheap. How is the parts availability and are the main wear items (disc and blades) expensive? Thanks. Lonn

My first discbine 10 years ago was a D Allis. I never relpaced any bearing etc in the cutter bar .. Just the normal knives every other week to keep a nice cut in alfalfa. As far as blades and disc assemblies- all of those items are available aftermarket. We traded it in a year after I got it on a sp mower and I never saw it move from the dealers lot after he went out o business til this past spring it moved. I always figured it went to the scrap yard till this past year a few weeks after I noticed it left I was called to a customers farm to harvest their hay for them and it was sitting on their field road broke down.

SCPAAndy, do you know a source for the aftermarket parts? I was told only AGCO had parts. Thanks

For what it's worth, I would like to put in my 2 cents. Please check with a dealer and see if this if this is the model has a shear bolt. Some of these mowers had shear bolt protection, but it was in the gearbox. Yes, a shear bolt in the gearbox and yes it only sheared when you were using it. You can imagine the fun, removing the gearbox cover, finding the broken bolt pieces, and installing a new one, all while the box and oil is HOT! I know, I bought a new one many years ago and kept it less than one season, ended up trading it for a used one of another color. Again, I'm not sure what model I had, but I do remember it was a pain in the butt. Just thought I would share this, might save someone a headache!!!
