Just curious what you guys  are pulling with and how  you do on average. Do you pull stock or modified? What wt. classes do you like? Do you like 28 inch wheels or 38 inch? I know when you go to different pulling oranizations and look at there end of season winners results our Allis's seem to dominate 3500-4500 classes. I am building my unstyled WC up to pull in a 3 mph. class using a d17 engine build, cant wait to try her out and see what she can do.

I've pulled every running allis I got. My best luck has been with my grandpa / great grandpa's 53wd. It was rebuilt in the late 70's and probely has M & W pistons I don't know if it's 4" or 4 1/2" stroke. the 53 wd runs in farm stock 14.9 x 28 dyna torq II on 13" rims I just built a divison II wd45 puller . Or Around here a antique class. It has 15.5-38 tires.

I pull a sorta stock 53 CA in 3500 and 4000. Stock engine. 13.5-24 water filled Firestones on 12 inch wide 4 loops on Farmall wheels with Farmall weights painted PO#1. I weight up the drawbar behind the rear axle for 4000. Drawbar is not original equipment. Stock pin hitch drawbar pined to a AC C hoop.  Get beat once in a while by a good pullin 45. Lots of tuff competition in 4000. One place I pull they go 3500 then 4500. I think its goofy but when you set up to pull 4000 and have to pull at a 500 pound disadvantage and don't get stomped by everybody, you don't feel to bad.

Pull my stock Wd 45 diesel (turns 46 hp.) in 4500 farm with 14.9 x 28 tires, if I'm running at local pulls with people turning 60-80 hp. plus oversize tires I'm usually one of the last 2 or 3 in the class, in antique pulls can be anywhere from 1st (once) to mid class depending on what shows up.  Probably would do better if I'd put better suited tires (have R2 tread on new tires right now).  Also pull my D 21 in 12500 to 15500 (usually 13000 and 15000, but depends on class weights at each pull) it has 24.5 x 32 tires (new Firestones) and basically farm stock, the pump was turned 20% on fuel and stock rpm, but had it on a dyno this winter and it turned 185 hp.  Generally the D 21 is anywhere from 1st to somewhere midclass, generally midclass when running against souped up Deeres and IH's, but can usually beat a few of them and finish in the top 3 maybe 50% of the time.  The souped up tractors are usually running larger turbos, 3000 rpm, larger inline injection pumps, and sometimes cut tires depending on the track rules.

My CA drawbar design is nonadjustable but its AC. Can't pull farm stock if the tech inspecter knows his ACs. They don't seem to have a problem with me pulling in Farm Comp or against so called stock tractors with suitcase weights. EDGETA rules. Like it sets with water & wheel weights and engine side weights it bumps 3500. When I weight up I fill a box I made to fit solid on the drawbar. It will hold 500# of 4 - 95# B sideweights and 3 chunks of 6" drill coller.

If I was going to pull 3 mile an hour classes with a d17 engine I would use a d17 tractor so I could run 38 tires and have the low side of the  power director to slow me down to 3 mile an hour.wc with 38 tall tires will fly in first gear if engine is turning any rpms at all.A tractor with tall tires and gears that will get it to the speed at which the rules at the pull are set will beat a tractor that has to get the speed from short tires because the gearing is to fast for tall tires every time.  my opinion.

Bob, Short chain, short drawbar, long chain long drawbar. At what weight class does your sled go to a long chain?  Take it from there.

BobFL, the best luck I've had on the drawbar is to have it at the 2nd shortest hole and a 20" hitch height.  I haven't got the front end off the ground, but it was very light when setup that way.  Actually most theories I've heard too is that if the front end is on the ground, but basically just touching, is about the best balance so that you don't give up anymore drawbar height than necassary.  This is running like a 4' (estimated length) chain on the sled and 4500# class.

Is there a rule of thumb to shoot for concerning balance. (with one L)
What would be the ideal percentage of total tractor weight on the rear axle and the percentage of total weight on the front axle with the tractor at rest sitting level to have maximum traction by weight transfer without lifting the front tires more than just a little.
Some places where I pull, tractor weight classes are determined by weighing first the front tires (or tire in my case) on the scale and then weighing again with only the rear tires on the scale. How they come up with a actual total weight has been a mystery to me.
I'm always quite a bit heavyer on the rear than on the front. Most of the green ones are naturally thataway. There is more to it to get maximum traction like tire size and drawbar height but balance definitly plays a roll.

I pull a WD-45 in the antique pulls. I pull in the 3500 up to 6700. i have 14.9-26 pressed steel, 13.6-28 spinouts or a set of 15.5-38s that i made. The tractor turns 45hp on the dyno but is a very strong puller (in 6700 on a good clay track i spun out with 14.9s and came in third outa 23 nobody coould believe it not even me). Ive came in 1st to upper mid class at every pull. I did turn the rpms up and with the 14.9s of the 13.6s i can trip a 3mph horn. I also pull a 7060 ant 7080 both running 210hp in the 15000 and 16000lb "out of field farm stock" classes. I usually plage in the top of the actual stock ones but theres too many other "stock" ones that usually beat me. I just do that for fun and to change the color up in the class a bit, i know win or lose i like to see the orange ones out there. There are videos of the 7060 and 7080 on you tube if anyone is interested let me know.

We run 14.9 x 24 tires on both of our WC pullers on the stock 8" rims (spokers on the 37 & pressed on the 38). Even the other A-C guys are running bigger wheels & tires than us, but we've made it work. The 37 is really just a good running stock WC with weight brackets but has won ALOT of Stock Class pulls @ 3500 & 4000 and a club championship. The 38 has an engine built similar to JM's that spins about 1900 rpms. This tractor has the slower hi-crop gears and we pull in 2nd or 3rd in the Modified Stock 4.5 mph classes. We just repeated as club champions at both 3500 & 4000, and also had a class win at 4500. This same tractor was undefeated @ 3000 in 2008, but we elected not to pull it that light any more, to give the smaller tractors a fair place to play at that weight. Dad was also club champion @ 2500 on his B, and I was 3rd over-all on my C @3000, losing out to two other A-Cs! At least out here it's true that Allis-Chalmers dominates the lighter weights up through 4500 lbs.! Kip
