Can a D-17 rear end & transmission be installed on a WD ? I know the engines can be swapped. What else from a D-17 can be used on a WD ?

Why are you wanting to put a D17 rear end and transmission on a WD?

I have heard the gear ratio on the first ones were the same as the WD45D.
C, WD45,WD puller, 185, 200, 7060 Red Belly, 7060 Black Belly,8010, and a R52 Gleaner, AND PROUD OF THEM!

Well, the difference between can and can't is only time and money, but in this case it's a ton of both.

Unlike most other similar Allis tractors, that almost anything "can" interchange on, the mid section of the D17, and that of the WD45 are miles apart in difference.  When they put a two speed power director in between the engine and the transmission, they changed a LOT.  It is a totally different animal in that region. The front of the Trans is nowhere close to bolting up to the back of the hand clutch housing of the WD45, Furthermore as a pulling tractor, there is no longer a place to bolt the frame rails of the WD45 to anything on the rear of a D17.  Like anything though, with a ton of money, fabrication, and machining equipment, and lot's of time, it's all possible, but it will not look at all like a WD45

If you're after the lower gear try to find a WD45 Diesel rearend and transmission. People talk about how difficult they are to find but with enough searching one will pop up. Just gonna have to pay a little extra for it but take it from me, it is WELL worth it in a pulling tractor.

To install the ring & pinion from a D-17 into a WD-45, it has to be from an OLD D-17. I'm guessing at the serial numbers, but I think it is before s/n 24001. LAter model D-17's won't fit. D-17 gear ratio is the same as a WD-45 diesel and is slower ratio than a WD-45 gasser.
