HD344 main bearings have been discontinued. The same bearings are in the 6 cylinder version of this motor AKA Buda 516, HD516, 6D516, 6D1516, TDS516 and model 3500. Please comment if there is more motors that take this bearing. The 4 cylinder version is AKA AC6000 and AC7000 (with turbo).
My question is should I save the old shells for rebabbiting? I am aware that rebabbiting commonly refers to cast in place shimmed bearings that are bored to size. I think shell bearings can be rebabbited. Comment please I had my HD344 crank reground 0.010/0.010. I was able to locate old stock for the mains. Does anyone have any 0.010 rod bearings for sale? |

During my desperate search to find connecting rod bearings for my HD6G I found an exelent link for Cleivite bearings. http://www.imperioautopecas.com.br/_arquivos/Bronzinas.pdf
The Allis chalmers information starts on page 81 of the 863 page document. This document says that AC built an HD7 wheel tractor with the AC 7000 turbo motor. It lists the HD7 crawler with the 3-71 GMC and with the 426 AC D3500 motor. It lists the HD7G with the AC 7000 turbo motor and the D3500 (6 cylinder ). This MAY be a typo. I know the HD7GB has the HD516 (6 cyl.) motor. Has anyone ever purchased from Mecanica Pedrosa in Puerto Rico? Their website says they have the discontinued AC main bearing set MS-1632P |

Shell bearings seem be steel with a copper plating over the steel than with another layer of material plated over copper . As these plated coatings are thin I am unsure if they could be plated back to size but a poured babbit bearing is a completely different type of process.

Dozer, I bought a set of rod bearings for my 16000 (early HD16) engine from Mechanica Pedrosa. Unless your brushed up on your spanish, use email. Isel@MecanicaPedrosa.com
Isel, one of the original owners sons, was running the business when i last spoke with him. He told me they had plans to close, and that was in September, I cant say what has happend since. I sent him an email with some part #'s from my bearing shells. He emailed me back a scan of an bearing book with contained my part #'s and kit #'s with details on each bearing. We confirmed what i needed and i purchased them. He also had a main bearing set for my engine but it wasnt .20 under like i needed. He gave me some contacts to try and I also found mains thanks to his help. I paid with a credit card (just in case), and received my parts in less than one week. I was very happy with the service and the price. I searched high and low, and this was my last chance before sending my inserts to be rebabbited. Yes it can be done, but not cheap. they reapply the soft material to the backing then bore back to spec. i was quoted $150 a hole for rod bearings, and my mains were not very good either. I could not afford to do nothing after all the money and hard work i put into my mahine. Luckily now it has paid for itself. Edited by CAL(KS) - 08 Mar 2013 at 7:36pm |

Thank you CAL(KS) for the comments on Mecanica Pedrosa. They have reasonable prices for Allis Chalmers parts but you have to know the part numbers you want. I have been researching rebabbiting shell bearings. The process is expensive because of the 3 or 4 thin metalic layers in a shell bearing. If you have a source for rebabiting send me a PM. Thanks to your good experience with Mecanica Pedrosa I will order from them and keep the rebabiting source for future needs.

I contacted Mecanica Pedrosa in PR. Isel Pedrosa is closing the shop. He does have CB700P-STD bearings and some main bearing sets. He will give up to 60% off for large orders. He does not have the 0.010 bearings I need. I contacted Travis Warner @ Mills Motor Parts (800) 624 7999. He has Clevite MS 1619P (0.010, 0.020,& 0.030)@ $425/set for the 516 cu in 6 cyl. Cleivite MS 1632P (same sizes) @ $325/set for the 344 cu in 4 cyl. Cleivite CB700P (0.010 to 0.040) rod bearings
@ $25/pr. Question the CB1369P rod bearing with the offset oil slot for oiling the wrist pin on the newer motors. Does the ofset go before or after TDC? I think it belongs with the shallow dish pistons. Anybody know how this came about? The slotted bearing is less expensive than the CB700P. |

I now have more bearings of this type than I will ever use. I purchased the remaining stock from Mechanica Pedrosa. These bearings fit many Buda and Allis Chalmers motors installed in trucks, tractors, crawlers, combines, and generators. If you have one of these motors I suggest that you reference this thread and my name because these bearings are really dificult to find. The individual bearing numbersare: MB2299P (flanged thrust bearing) MB2300P (rear main) and MB2298P (3 reqd for 5 main block, 5 reqd for the 7 main block). I also have 2 sets of the shimable bronze thrust bearings for the newer blocks. These bearings are old stock having date codes going back to the 1970's I was fortunate to be able to locate these bearings.
