Good chart, I thought the 3pt was standard on series IV, not snap coupler though?

I have a sales brochure on D-17 IV and it plainly states snap coupler is standard on it with 3 PT. hitch as an option.

Series one gas features.....small bypass engine oil filter and lines.....oil bath air cleaner.....same muffler as a WD45......governor driven power steering pump..... very narrow drawbar bail......two bolt rear pivot bracket on wide front.....single internal lift arm cylinder.......3700 PSI hydraulic pump not "live".....drum style brakes same as WD45.....radiator mounted headlites..... Series two gas features (there really is no Series 2 officially).......large full-flow eng oil filter......eventually there was a belt driven power steering pump......wider drawbar bail......larger muffler to quiet things down a bit......improved 4-bolt rear pivot on WF axle.........improved 3700 PSI hydraulic pump with an adjustable lowering speed......larger ball bearing on the transmission input shaft...... Series 3.....dry air filter.....oval muffler for even more quiet.......fender mounted headlites........hydraulic/power director compartments are now joined for more oil capacity and have a filter on them.......PTO and hand clutch gear idlers shafts have nuts on the ends......many transmission gears are changed and made wider and  stronger.......combination band&disc brakes.......stronger bull and bull pinion gear final drives........Series 4.......same as S3 but the addition of the new "high volume-live hydraulic" system........new lift arms and external lift cylinders.....new heavy duty drawbar bail with adjustable height...........Overview....with each change, there was a need for improvement because of too many failures or lack of performance......the D17 was probably the best overall model they ever made and the sheer numbers of their production is a testament to that.

Series III and IV had the different rear wheel centers where the PAW eccentrics were replaced with a one piece wedge....and the pie weights were changed to fit them.

Matt,  your chart shows series I from 1001-31625. Down below it says Black bar grill starting at 240013. Which digit needs removed in the 240013 to make it fit in the series I sequence? My 17 is number 29625 so it is very close to the end of the series I.
The full flow oil system came out towards the end of the "Series I" Mine has it.

The 3 should be dropped. The black bar grille D17 versions started at S/N 24001 and ran until 31625. That is coming from Terry Dean's AC data book. I just noticed something about the serial numbers in the AC data book. It says:

Series 1 - S/N 1001 to 23363 (22363 made)
Series 1 Black Bar Grille - S/N 24001 to 31625 (7625 made)
Series 2 - S/N 32001 to 41540 (9540 made)
Series 3 - S/N 42001 to 72768 (30768 made) (Seems to be a discrepancy here. Book also states that only 9126 were made but that doesn't add up to the S/N range. Which is correct?)
Series 4 - S/N 75001 to 89213 (14213 made)

So are there gaps in the serial numbers when they changed series? It looks like they always started out with a 1, i.e. 32001 or 42001, etc. I didn't realize that.

My first Allis tractor was a D17 gas that I purchased at a farm auction on Nov 11, 1967
was an early model with out power steering. The bearings went out in the hi low one day combing with the All Crop 90 on the home farm. Also the mix mill was very hard on the engine Dad had a length of twine tied to the throttle to run engine wide open. The manifold and muffler would be cheery red when grinding pig feed with 1/8" screen on a 20" mill. We had an 84 series S/C plow, 13 ft triple K and 12 ft MF disc for this tractor.
In 1971 traded for a low hr 180 diesel . What a difference running the mix mill. The 180 was running over 80 pto hp.

In the upper LH corner where it says "at s/n 19978 from By-pass type oil filter To Full Flow" refers to the "ENGINE" serial number according to the service manual.
The parts manual says it started with "Tractor" serial number 24001 which might indicate the relationship between the two numbers at that particular time.

The head was changed to accept the 3/4" reach plugs at "ENGINE" serial number 17293.

Skyhighballoon (MO) posted on here once that the heavier WFE was introduced beginning with serial number 38136.
My D-17 serial number 34633 definitely has the lighter WFE!

I'm sure there were other subtle "Running Changes" during the span of the D-17's life.

eg: From the service manual......"Effective with tractor serial number D-17-24001 all brake linkage and shoes were made heavier to eliminate linkage from springing, causing a spongy feel on brake pedals".

Speaking of the wide front ends,
Were the series IV D17 wide front the same as on a 170?
I have seen mostly 5 bolt and some 6 bolt hubs on the series IV, while I have seen some 5 bolt but mostly 6 bolt hubs on the 170.  I am not speaking of the wide front that went forward like on the later 170/175.

Wide front axle cross tube on a One-Seventy was different than any D-17.  The D-17 was rounded on all four corners, while the One-Seventy was squared off on the bottom edges.  Don't think there was ever a 5 bolt front hub on any One-Seventy.
