    Posted: 28 Apr 2011 at 3:40pm
Hey everyone, thanks for all of the collective help I've gotten in getting a factory 3ph from a salvaged 180 onto my late model D17 IV.  The 3ph assembly bolted on perfectly.

Unfortunately, I did not get the factory 3ph drawbar when I picked up the other parts from the salvage yard.  They had it available, but I wasn't sure what else I would need to change to mount it on my IV.  It was a long, straight thing - not bolted up, and it didn't appear to have a SnapCoupler loop on the front.

I have been unable to see the parts drawings on the AGCO website.  I basically need to swap out the Snap Coupler housing, held by 6 large bolts, to whatever assembly would bolt onto the IV to accept the drawbar.  The salvage yard is quite a ways away, and I won't have time to just drive out there and look at the actual 180 donor.

So the short question is - is there a housing on the 180 that I can have them pull, that would bolt onto my IV to  accept the 3 ph straight drawbar?  Do I have to do any further internal modifications to my IV to change out the SnapCoupler housing?

I have to say, the factory 3ph brackets and assembly seem to be built like a bulldog.  They didn't have the sway blocks, but I will keep looking for a set of those.  Meanwhile, I am thinking some tough old oak hunks should do the trick, at least for a while.

You may be able to weld up a similar bracket to replace the SC eye assembly.

I don't have a good picture of my 180 to show this.  The drawbar is not straight, it has an "upward" dogleg going from rear to front.  There is a bracket that bolts up near where the SC bell used to be that the front of the drawbar slides through.  There is a pin that goes through the drawbar to anchor it and there are two positions, regular and forward I believe, to set how far it extends out the back.

Dave and Shyhigh,

Thanks!  Dave - great picture.  It is odd - but the drawbar the salvage yard showed me lying on the floor was definitely straight and flat - and couldn't have come off a 180.  Good thing I didn't just buy it.

I am going to need to dig into this a bit further before buying anything.  From the picture, it appears that the brake peddle mounts would be different - at least on a 180 vs my IV.  So perhaps a custom welding job to my old SC drawbar might be a better approach.  Oddly enough, on my IV, the SC is in an almost straight line back through the drawbar roller support on the new 3 ph assembly.  Not sure if the factory setup on my IV would be the same details as the 180 - even though the basic housing might be the same.

If I could get the AGCO site to work, I could compare the drawings for the IV vs a 180, but it keeps demanding some new viewer that I can't get to load or run on my computer.

Just looking at that picture vs. my 17 series III, the brake pivot shaft looks to be mounted the same way as the one in the picture, it also runs through the snap coupler mounting bracket.  I bet it is very similar.  My guess is, if you pull off your brake shaft, unbolt the sc from the bottom of the transmission, the bolt up the drawbar mount, re-install the brake shaft pivot, you will have exactly what you need.

The 180 and Series IV drawbar mount are the same.   Both hold the brake pedals.
The innovators offer what others will imitate.

Thanks guys,

You're right.  I wasn't looking at my IV when I said that, and my memory wasn't working too well.  So let me call the junkyard and see if they can pull the housing.  I've also got to sort out with them what drawbar they had lying on the floor - but it wasn't from a 180 based on these pictures.

By the enlarged look this one has the same issues mine had, that is now repaired; see my post on drawbar 180.
