Lots of media around here are still saying it's gonna be a bad spring for flooding along the Mighty Mississippi and Missouri rivers due to the large amount of snowfall this past winter. I was just wondering how much snow is left on the ground that has to come down these rivers.
 Thanks

We don't have much snow on the ground here in La Crosse this AM, but we got a lot of show north of us and we set a record for rainfall.  We got 1.82" of rain yesterday.  That won't help with the situation.

The snow was pretty well gone yesterday due to several inches of rain we've gotten in the last couple of days------------which makes flooding even more likely.  This morning there is a couple of inches of new snow on the ground.  Gotta love living in Minnesota!!

We have about six more inches and the first inch was ice/sleet. Rained all day before it turned to snow.   Still snowing and blowing.  Ditches were still full and plenty of piles.  Open area's were getting clear.  Should be over seven feet of snow now for the season.  I know now my childhood memories were not fantasies....Dale

I don't know how far north you're talkin', but we've still got at least two feet in the fields and it's been snowin' and blowin' for the last three days!  I've got to go out and plow out my yard again as it's pretty well drifted in. Can you guys talk to Al and see about sending some of that global warming up here??

So here it is noon and still snowing , last night it was rain and thunder shower and ice rain , this AM was about 2" of snow and now still snowing and windy.
Most of snow had melted on areas where it wasnt drifted or plowed into piles , now with new snow ? As ground did'nt have lot of frost most water went down from last melt but will be near saturation now so going tobe lot of runoff from this latest snow.

Fargo reports 9" of snow yesterday and last night. Mayville had 19". Grand Forks reported only 1". Hawley, Mn where I am we had about 5 to 6". Sunshine is out now. Should be an interesting spring.

Red River Flooding for this spring is expected. Fargo ND. has already made 2.5 milliom sand bags and have them stocked in warm storage. Moorhead, Mn has made 1.5 million plus and have them stored for the flood. I forget all the figures but I believe there is a 33% chance to set a modern day record for flooding. That was before this last snow storm. Looks like it could get ugly in a couple of weeks.

The way is sounds, the large amounts of snowfall that the northern states had this winter has already melted down to a managable amount, that will relieve the rivers a bit even if we have large areas of heavy rain. River is 22 right now at Lock and Damn 26, but forcast 26.5 by Wed., so it's coming up.

Thanks for all the replies.

While a lot of the snow has melted down, not much has run off.  Get ready for some big floods-----we are here in Minnesota.

No new snow today, but there's forecasts of mixed snow and rain the next few days in Central Iowa. My glaciers that had been here since the first snow have all gone since yesterday. But they'd been melting for weeks and the creek isn't up much.

Heavy wet spring snow is more than many a snow blower can handle you have to hit it slowly and expect it to plug with heavy slush.
