I found and can have a Van Brunt single horse 5 disc seeder. It also says john deere on it thats the only draw back. It's all there except one spiral tube, wood is in excellent shape and a couple manuals in one of the two hoppers. My question is are they any good or if I don't want it does someone else? I could see using it with my garden tractor but somebody would still have to be at the handles.

John Deere bought Van Brunt long ago, but kept the Van Brunt name on the drills for several decades. The FB that I have is a workable but not outstanding drill. The spiral tubes are no longer available, but Deere offers plastic pipe in their place. They came at least at the age of the one I have with single or double disk openers. The single disk openers use cast iron sleeve/flange bearings that need generous lubrication to keep the disks turning. Another part that I think is no longer available, though I bought one or two in the past 20 years.

Thanks for the reply. I think it has double disk openers. I think I'll grab it rather than it get trashed. Did they all have two hoppers I assume one is for fertilizer.

One compartment for large seed - oats, wheat, etc. Small compartment up front typically for small seeds - alfalfa, clover, etc.

Could have three compartments, small seed (e.g. grass), big seed, and fertilizer.

In good shape I've seen them bring several hundred dollars. The one you are describing sounds like a valuable one. There are lots of old JD drills around that would have a spiral drop like it needs. The drop tubes are one of the reasons I hate my JD drill, always coming loose and falling off.
