I am not sure, but that is not to good if they ran it that way. My guess is there was an air restrictor indicator in that hole that would show you if your air cleaner is dirty and was drawning to hard. I am not an expert on these but that is my guess.

Wow, captain, you must have scared everone off on this one, not to many out there giving advice, that is unusual, but the more i look at it the more i think that was an indicator for air flow. You do know that if you run the engine with that plug out of there it will suck dirt into the motor and ruin the rings, so hopefully that has not happened. It does look like a very nice find, i wish something like that was around here in that good of shape. I wish you luck with the Series III and like i said the other day, it you arent happy with your find, let me know, i would like one like that.

Probably should have something like this screwed in there....or a tube running up to the dash with something similar.

Captain, you should put a plug I think 1/4" in there or get the gizzmo that Eldon pictured on it, My seiresIII XT has a compression fitting that a plastic line hooks in and go's to the dash w/the that gizzmo, what it's for is when your air filter get's dirty it will show red in the clear ring, when you clean the filter you push the button on it and it will reset to green, don't run it with hole open it will be a little hard on turbo charger. Good luck |

Oh yeah I remember now that I see Eldons picture! I had the exact same thing dash mounted on my ex 180. I'll get one asap. Gosh I'll have to wait forever it seems for the snow to melt so as to get this home and get working on it; come on spring! Thanks for the responses!

Called a Filter-Minder. Most commonly made by Donaldson, but I am sure others are out there |

My Dad bought a new 190XT when they first came out. used it a year, started using quite a bit of oil. He took it back to the dealer, I was working there at the time, I tore the eng down and found the same plug missing on the air tube, there was paint in the threads so we knew there was never anything installed in that hole. the plug in yours probably fell out, if there was a filter minder in it you couldnt see it as its under the hood.
