I was wondering why you tore it all down - until the picture of the gears came up. Looks really nice, even if it is blue!

It started out as just a little rattle and then eventually made its way to a growl so we parked it and hooked my 7060 on the other grain cart. When we loaded it on the lowboy to haul it home we lost all the gears except for 1-6. A bearing went out which caused one of the shafts to fall down. Ate teeth off half the gears in there. Its not like the normal tractor you split. The motor doesn't touch the frame rail or front cast piece. It only hangs off the transmission by 6 bolts so we couldnt just split it.

How long did this take you? Looks like quite a job. I see it started out with FORD decals but after you painted it now it has NEW HOLLAND decals.

I was like John thinking why do this to such a good looking tractor; thought this must be what grain farmers do when they get bored in the winter with no cows to feed. Then I saw the tranny photo and it all made sense. Very impressive, it looks great and a shop like that sure dose make that kind of project easier to do. Now that you got that done you still have time to pull the 7060 in for a coat of paint before plantin time. What part of MO you from.

7060, did you have a parts book to help direct you in the teardown process? When those photos began showing the cab removal, I was thinking wow! I guess that is common with the newer front wheel assist tractors. How difficult is the cab removal process? Is most of it electric couplings or are there a fair amount of hydraulic couplers also? And finally, if you don't mind answering, how much in new parts costs did that faulty trans bearing cause? Thanks for sharing. Very impressive process.

I think if we had the chance we would get rid of ours, sometimes when it gets warmed up it will not go above I believe it's 8th gear. If you let it cool down it will work fine. New holland has been all over it and they've "fixed" it about five times now I think. Still has a problem.

Im in northeast Missouri, close to Kirksville. We didn't use a shop manual, we just started takin bolts out. The cab wasn't bad at all, ide say as easy as my 7060's cab. Its only 4 cab mount bolts, 4 big twist on electrical connectors, remote and parking brake cables, throttle cable and 9 hydraulic lines that are all in a row under the floorboard. Forgot about heater core and a/c lines too. We had a tractor just like this one but the cab caught on fire, so we didn't have to buy new gears for it. As for the total cost of this project Im not sure because we havent added up the receipts. The paint was around $1100, and some of the parts from new holland were rediculously high. ![]() ![]() Edited by 7060 - 09 Feb 2011 at 7:45pm |
