How did they handle those plows in today's harder ground? Supposedly they could pull 7 bottoms. Do you feel they could. My 7050 pulled a 4x18 this fall and 5 would have been fine I think but as hard as the ground was I don't think I would have wanted more than 5. Normally 4x18 is an effortless pull for me.

I have pulled 5x16's, 9" deep in our hard clay with 7060PS in 5th gear, could sometimes run 6th gear but it was too fast, them rocks put yer nose on the windshield!!
Why do today what you can put off til tomorrow.

I'm not saying the 7050 didn't have the power cause I could have pulled the plow apart but this last particular fall was very hard and I am not sure I would have had the power to pull a 6 bottom at any reasonable speed. We didn't go through a normal frost cycle last winter due to all the snow and looks like that's the case again this year so most likely will be just as hard next fall. BTW do you know what the military used anhydrous for in WWII. It's a clue as to why the soils today may be harder than 40 or 50 years ago.

Righty o. So what does it do to our fields? Dad used it once in all the years he farmed. It was mostly virgin ground when he bought the farm. After renting it out starting in 1997 until he rented to me last year it had quite a bit of anhydrous put on. In 97 when the neighbor adjacent to Dad's farm first took over they commented that the soil was so unbelievably soft that they figured it was costing them more fuel as their very large tractors would sink in so much even with duals that they were always climbing up hill. Not from being wet either as it is pattern tiled except on the hilltops. Fall of 2009 was the first time I had chiseled or plowed any of the ground since the mid 90's and I know it is harder than I've ever seen it.
