My D17 has 2 different kinds of front rims. One seems to be a a heavy duty kind, the other one seems thinner and has broken. I bought a replacement rim, but it also broke after about 12 hours of moving topsoil with the FEL. Does anyone know where to get the heavy duty (16 x 4.25 5-hole) front rims for a D17? |

I had this trouble several years ago moving big bales with my D15 II. most of the bigger, wider, heavier rims would not fit due to the offset. Wouldn't fit because the tire would hit the vertical axle spindle shaft. I ended up cutting my wheel centers out and welding to some heavier wheels. I could space the offset properly before I welded them to fit. 9.5lx16 tires cleared the uprights about 1 1/2 inches. Gave me a lot more strength and flotation.

sometimes I walk out to my shop and look around and think "Who's the idiot that owns this place?"

valubilt has a 15 x 6 2300 pound 5 bolt rim. http://www.valu-bilt.com/product_info.php?product_id=8643&item_number=A%201231943
Shoup has some rated at 1200 and 1800 pounds. Last time I wanted special rims, one place I found them was a rim store in Des Moines where they had various widths, strengths, and offsets. You do need to be sure of the offset. Gerald J. |
