My WD45 clutch stopped working the other day the tractor will not move in any gear with the clutch engaged had it 24 years and no sign of clutch problems , I noticed the PTO would grind while trying to engage it even with the tractor stopped and no movement of the tractor , is there a relation ship between the PTO and the clutch that may have broken.?

The pto works with the foot clutch, drive tires with the hand clutch. If things are right, you should be able to kick the hand clutch out and pto still run but forward movement stop. If it doesn't move forward but the pto works, your problem is in the hand clutch. Not unusual for the pto to 'grind' going into gear. Be gentle and patient and it will slide into gear.

Lock the brakes tight. Start engine. Shift into 4th gear. Hand clutch FORWARD (released). Shift PTO fully into gear. Let out the foot clutch. Is the PTO running or NOT ??? If the PTO turns, now pull the hand clutch all the way back. Does the PTO STOP ??? or stay running??? If the PTO stops, your foot clutch is bad. If the PTO stays running the hand clutch is bad. Might take two people to do this or tie something on the PTO so you can see if it is turning or not from the seat.
