Gentlemen, I do remember the ad since at the time I was 15.
In fact, since I cannot collect tractors I collect AllisChalmers Ad's and literature. Have a bunch and probably have this one. I do have one that shows the original Allis.

That is planted in "hills". 3 kernals to the hill and the hills are probably 30" apart. They used to wire check plant at 48 inches if you had 48 " row spacing, you could culivate it cross ways. If you cultivate 1 row at a time you could go at a 45 degree angle 2 directions also.

I wonder what kind of yield one could expect from corn planted check rows? I guess there wasn't hybrid seed available at that time, was there?

John, I bet 50 bu/acre would have been a good yield prior to hybred seeds. Here is the article in that same magazine about the 200 bushel/ acre yields from 1948.
I guess I need to save these at a higher resolution or something. I can copy the picture and save it, but when I blow it up I can't read it.
