Trying to set up a Kinze planter on a 180/185.  Manual says I need 20+ gallons per minute flow.  Obviously stock pump not enough.  Could go with a pto pump.  Long shot but could a D17 series 4/early 170 pump mounted on the side of the transmission provide enough flow when combined with the existing pump on the tractor?  I doubt it would even mouth up the same.  Just curious to avoid the clutter of the pto pump.  Thanks

No. There's nothing inside a 180/185 belt pulley hole to drive a pump like that. You could build something to connect to a belt pulley accessory to have a drive, but it would die every time you pushed in the foot clutch. How about move the alternator to the area above the injection pump (like a combine engine) and make yourself a belt driven 10-12 GPM pump to sit where the alternator used to. Output flow could be combined with the OEM pump, but you'd have to have a separate suction/supply line.

Get a pto pump and you won't burn up the tractor hydraulics. And if you have to use a different tractor you can move the pump. Planter probably doesn't use that much all the time only when using all functions at once. Neighbor went thru that this spring with a new Deere planter and Challenger tractor. They had to prioritize hydraulic functions.

Put a PTO pump on a JD 7200 planter (new to me this year) this spring. Was quite a project in some ways but once I got it set right it worked perfectly.

PTO pump is best way. I drove a air fan for a 385 Deutz planter from PTO.               MACK
