Hello all. I’ve recently bought an Allis Chalmers 180 from my wife’s family estate. It was her dad’s tractor and of course, is very sentimental. She wants me to use it periodically to ensure it doesn’t just sit in the shed, but I really need some weight on the front of it to put it to use. I’m very unfamiliar with these tractors and am unsure the best method of adding factory front weights (it’s very important to her that it remains original). Can anyone guide me to a resource for front weights? It does has a very small bolt-on weight on the front. From the little bit of research I have done, it appears as though this is a “starter weight”? Thanks

If it is about 5 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches thick, that is a 75 lb weight and most often there are two of those stacked on top of each other. When there are two, they protrude out flush with the grille shell, for a total of 150 lbs. There is a 250 lb weight that can be used first, as it is 12 inches tall and wraps around the front end and then two 75 lb weights can be stacked on the front of it for a total of 400 lbs. That combo is quite common on 180 tractors. What are you lifting that causes you problems ??

Another great place is TractorHouse on the internet. Click on tractors and forget about the horsepower. Click on your brand and model. You want to check out AC’s from 170’s - 220’s. You will see all of the different weights styles and brackets that AC had for them. Welcome.

I early on could not find weights so opted to add a loader. Was really light in front with any three point equipment without something up front.
