My neighbor just drug home a D14, fairly clean, 'bought from the estate of some old man who passed away" lol. Doesn't run. He was told that it only needs a new governor, but you know how that goes...... Supposedly the engine was 'just rebuilt'. Throttle linkage is disconnected at the governor arm. Governor arm has good spring action and feels normal to me. Somehow, I think I will find that all the gear driven stuff is out of time. I find that in the country, salesmanship often gets confused with honesty.

Typically a just rebuilt anything scares me. Way to many times things are not done right and need done over and the owner thinks it should be worth MORE! Not to me! Needs governor scares me too. Old one explode and go through timing gears distorting teeth? Who knows but I would have to rip the front end down to know for sure. Lot of unknowns that could be very expensive.

It's kind of like an ad for a cheap car that states "needs a tune up'. That usually means 'needs a valve job'. I'll pull the cover off that governor and find out for sure.
