Hello
It’s always cool to see something allis chalmers when you least expect it. At the big dairy farm today. All big more modern equipment. They always run mostly case. On the lawn mower driving by a dealers flatbed with an old gravity wagon on it. Sure enough it has an allis chalmers running gear. I couldn’t get close enough to read sr tag but you can read faintly 701 in black on side of frame. I assume 7ton. Figured I’d share that.

Mikez, Good eyes spotting the AC gear! The AC701 was the later 7tons? It was built after 1965 (has the newer triangle AC side decals & black AC lettering over white background rear decal ). The AC 601, 605, & 700 were built earlier before 701. I believe all of them had 6 bolt Q709 wheel hubs.
A 175-225 bu Gravity box for the AC 701 gear is about right?? Ficklin 185? Huskee 165? Killbros 300? Bradford 225? Edited by AC7060IL - 13 Oct 2021 at 7:44am |

I bought a new 701 gear years ago for a gravity box. I was disappointed that with no grease zerks on steering rods after only about 3 yrs. of only seasonal use it would not trail on the road worth a hoot.

I don't remember what it cost. That was in the late 70's? I bought the AC because of the top notch dealer in Danville,Ky which is of course "long gone" now. I still drive past the site once in a while and recall all the new AC and MF tractors lined up out front. It's now a strip mall and Aldi grocery store. My how time changes things.

I remember my Dad and uncle would get in several running gears in pieces. We'd put them together at the dealership. Would get the tires from the local gas station next door. Since Ficklin wagons were made in the same town (Onarga, IL) they sold several gears with the Ficklin gravity boxes.

I’m not sure what the box was, didn’t pay much attention to it lol.
I can see the tie rods being an issue. I told them I wanted to switch the gears out with one we have laying here. So I can have the allis chalmers gear. He said boy you have some good eye lol, didn’t know it was allis.

I found a July 6, 1968 price listing for an AC 701 gear & Killbros gravity box @ $499.
I'm assuming that was a new price? And that's probably with rims/tires?? Another wagon advertisement by TRULOCK from that same 1968 periodical list the following: BUSHNELL GRAVITY BOXES. 175 bu., $165.00; 225 bu., 249.50. WAGON GEARS. 6 ton, reg. $139.50, now $124.50; 8 ton reg. $179.50, now 149.50; 10 ton, reg. $239.50, now 209.50. WAGON TIRES. 7.60x15, $15.25; 9.50x15 8 ply, $20.39; 11.00x15, 6 ply, $25; 8 ply $27.50. The reason I think the AC 701/Killbros is a new listing is that if I add up the following 1968 Trulock wagon setup, it would be $396; Bushnell 175 bu box @ $165.00 8 ton gear @ $149.50 9.50x15 8 ply @ $20.39 x 4 = $81.56 Here's a photo of an advertisement taken from the Indiana Prairie Farmer, July 6, 1968 for the AC 701 gear & Killbros box.
