Hi all,
I'm pretty excited! I added a couple more tractors to the collection recently. A 1925 and a 1926 Allis Chalmers model 15-25 or L. It is looking like I will tear into these this winter, but it will be a long term project, as they are needing a complete restoration, and I need to get the garage fixed up before I can do that. But here is part one of the video restoration series on my YouTube channel where we bring them home. I plan to do the same type of thing with these as I did with my 6-12 and document the entire project to show others how I do things, and how these 15-25's are built and work. If you have one of these 15-25's I'd love to talk with you as I get into this project. Should be a fun time, stay tuned as we save some more history! |

Jacob, I will sure be following. The L is my dream machine, but for now I will enjoy the process through your machines. Glad you post these, with the 6-12 and now the L 15-25. Thanks for your efforts.

following along great videos For the axle shaft, check into some 4140 G&P shafting, or chromed shafting (hard surface); both are readily available. |

Enjoy all of your videos. Very interesting to watch your progress. Good luck with the belt pulley. Thanks for taking the time to document and share your work.

For a long term restoration you are getting into it pretty well! You are putting me to shame with my United as so far all I have done is sourced a few parts here and there and not touched the actual tractor yet!
Once the weather cools here I might have to take a leaf out of your book and start setting out some weekly tasks.

Oh we'll eventually get that pulley off, thanks for your words of encouragement, they are appreciated!
Slowly but surely is the key to this kind of project. A person just needs to put the time in, even if it's just a few hours a week. Even half an hour here and there adds up over the course of months and years. Just need to work on something, anything, and keep working on it. Sometimes that is not actually touching the tractor like you say, sometimes it's just reading and studying the parts books, or talking with other fellow tractor owners with questions you may have. Or Googling about our model of tractor to see what info is already out there. And when you are like me and work on tractors that there essentially is NO information available on the internet, then you have to PROVIDE that info for others. That is my goal of my YouTube channel, to have that info out there for future people restoring these amazing pieces of our history. Thank you all for your support!

Hi Jacob, now that you have the puller applying tension to that pulley, I would take the torch and apply some heat to the hub of the pulley. this should cause it to expand and probably loosen up. Is that pulley on a taper on the shaft or just on a straight shaft with a key?

The pulley is a straight shaft, which is why it's being so difficult. It's likely that it has never been off since put on at the factory, so lots of years of rust. I have a friend coming to visit who has some more options to get that pulley off, we'll see how that goes, stay tuned!
Until then, here is part 10:

Hammer is much too light….get a 2#er. And crank that puller down!
Add more heat. The Kroil or whatever that was didn’t even smoke, so it couldn’t have been very hot. The propane torch won’t suffice. Oxy acetylene with a rose-bud tip for quickly getting it hot. Might have to borrow one. Best to heat up the pulley rim too, so that the whole thing expands evenly.

It's pretty neat being able to see the guts of these things, as most of us will never tear into one. Thanks for keeping the updates going.
