Last fall the hydraulic pump on my E gave out. I was all set to make an emergency trip to the Kansas City area to Austin’s for a used pump when a friend came up with one. It got me through harvest, but it was pretty weak. Farming is enough of a gamble so I decided new was a better choice. Everything is NLA through Agco so I went to a local hydraulic shop. They said the same, Cessna doesn’t make parts for it anymore. They took an off the shelf pump and custom modified it so it fit the original bracket and pulley. The original reservoir was mounted directly on the pump so I got a piece of aluminum and turned it down in my lathe and drilled a couple holes in it. Works very well now. Ignore the cobbled up suction line, when I couldn’t get a hydraulic hose made on a Sunday afternoon I used what I had laying around the shop. It’s going to get a real hydraulic hose before I go to the field.

Looks like a nice neat job, should keep the machine going for a few more decades. Thumbs Up        How many acres do you run through it each year?

Necessity is the mother of invention. I wish I had a lathe; or more accurately, I wish I had a lathe and the skills to actually MAKE something useful on a lathe. LOL. Well done.

Don’t worry about excess hydraulic hose from the pump to it’s reservoir & valve body. It should aid as a makeshift oil cooler..

Thanks for the kind words guys. I only run 12 acres, and considering that land is selling in the $10K-$14k range that’s not likely going to change anytime soon.
The length is needed to get a nice easy bend so the suction line doesn’t kink. I do have a power steering cooler from a 70s Ford car that I did consider putting on it.

Your Gleaner E & its 330 cornhead look like a sweet combo. Great little giants of the past. And it’s still earning its keep. Have you sped up it’s clean grain assy yet for those $10-14k/acre high producing yields?

Increasing the speed of the clean grain elevator is on the back of my mind. I planted 36000 of a very good hybrid so I’m expecting to have to crawl. With the 2 row in a high producing hybrid it was a lean mean corn eating machine. I could run as fast as the head could pull the stalks in.
