BIL gave me one with a bad cord which I replaced . Also gave me a couple 120Z flap discs . Would these be good for knocking off the rust on old tractor parts ? Been using my drill and 3M scotch brite ? pads . Thanks !

If it's the same flap disc I'm thinking of be careful. They'll take a lot more than rust in a big hurry. They're slightly less aggressive than a grinding disk

If you use it on something and get it fairly wore out then it works pretty good for removing rust. Still be careful though. That was a trick we used in a mold shop. We saved used sand paper and used sanding disks for finishing. You could use wore out 220 and it cuts more like 400.

All of the above methods work and have their place. On my WD project the wire brush works for loose paint and rust on rough surfaces but not well on smooth surfaces with good paint such as the oil pan. The flap disc and scour pads are better but create heat which can warp sheetmetal. Currently using 80 grit on a DA for that and walnut shells for the tightspots.

Thendrix, I've never seen a grinding fish, does the fish have to be dried before use and will it work in both directions or only one?  Also you say they are pretty aggressive, do you need to wear special gloves or a face shield or anything

A grinding fish is a fish with a machinists apron, face shield, safety glasses, and strong enough fins to handle a grinder.
