    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 at 2:00pm
Hello, I am searching for a replacement Hydraulic filter for my AC 6140 S/N 1735. The filter on it now is an 72099245 which I have verified is the correct number. I have called all kinds of different places and MFG's with no success. Does anyone here have any information that could help?
Thanks,
Larry

I wish I'd seen your post before I went to the farm, I'm back home now. But I have my books in the truck. I'll reply if/when I find anything. But I do replace it every time I change the fluid. ...if it's the same filter you're talking about; there's also a smaller internal filter at the rear of the tractor, and THAT one - I cannot find anywhere... Maybe we're in the same boat on that one.

I need more than 200 characters for my "signature." I'd love to see that changed to 250!

OK, I didn't write the filter number in the book. You're talking the main filter, not the small one in the return line, right? As I recall the ones I bought were not that expensive. Not sure where I've bought them, though. Sorry, I'll try to get back to the barn tonight. It's the one in the return line that I can't find anywhere. I know newer models (newer than mine, #1391) used a spin-on filter in place of the element. An adapter was offered at some point to convert the element to a spin-on, but that part availability disappeared as an item long ago.

I looked in the AGCO parts book and the correct filter is 72097690. It's a Fiat filter.

Baldwin BT353, Allis Chalmers 20797690-8; Massey Ferguson 3280185-M91, Fram PH2895

If you search for 720976901 you get Baldwin BT215

There are probably a lot of filters that will work. 3/4-16 thread and about 3 in. dia.
I looked up luberfiner PH4408 and it had a long list of filters.
1970 190XT, 1973 200, 1962 D-19 Diesel, 1979 7010, 1957 WD45, 1950 WD, 1961 D17, Speed Patrol, D14, All crop 66 big bin, 180 diesel, 1970 170 diesel, FP80 forklift. Gleaner A

Yes this is the large spin on filter about 3.68 diameter by 8.24 long. Did not take it off because I don't want to mess up the gasket so I cannot tell you the thread pitch and size of the hole. The tractor has about 40 hours on it since last changed. I had to take one of the cylinders off to rebuild it and thought maybe I should change the fluid, but maybe I should just leave well enough alone. I think I may have found on here in Ohio for $85 will have to drive about 40 miles to look at it. They guy said he could get me 50 if I wanted, so I wonder who is his supplier!

Well that was the original number, (7210875) I have a receipt that shows the original owner bought that filter, however I ordered that filter from Best Farm Parts and got one that looked like this picture nothing like the picture on the website at all which looked like the spin on filter. After some research, this filter is for a Yanmar

well that looks like a CARTRIGE filter or STRAINER that goes inside a CAN or inside the gear case... I think your looking for the OTHER part number ( spin on)..

there is NO REASON a spin on filter would cost $100.   They must be using the wrong picture in the sales lit............ or they just sent you the wrong filter ( suction screen)....  I would call and ask the SIZE of the spin on filter for $20.

OK... first, the information contained herein was supplied to me by the person with whom I spoke at the local NAPA store where I've been buying all the filters for my 6140, AND the parts guy at the local AGCO dealer. So, it's not my opinion in case anyone starts heading in that direction. So don't.

When I was last at the farm I looked at the hydraulic filter, NAPA #1268. When I got back home that night I looked it up, got a sick feeling when I read that it's an oil filter. No mention of hydraulics. But I've been using them on the 6140 since I bought it many years ago and things have been perfectly fine.

Today I finally remembered to call NAPA and the AGCO dealer and ask.

I spoke with NAPA guy, he pulled it up on his computer, said yes is also used as a hydraulic filter and transmission filter, they sell a lot of them for tractor hydraulics, have them in stock for $12.99 apiece. ...whew, ok... lol

I called the AGCO dealer to confirm, spoke with a guy in the parts department. I explained the same thing, he said it's no problem, he runs them too (he has a WD45, a B, a 6140 and a 5050) since even with his employee discount the NAPA ones are still way WAY less expensive than what he sells.

So that's about all I can contribute, I hope it helps!

Just looking up some filter numbers for the AC 715B - what a confusing mess ,
Engine takes a PH8A for the Perkins 4-236 engine - but seems every other cross reference doesn't list that .
Then fuel filters are listed as spin on - but use C1191A filter which I just got from a Marine Supply outfit for $5 each - but a marked John Deer on box
Looking at the hydraulic filter - the thread size is 3/4 x16  and guess what it's same thread as the engine oil filter - as are the other size and specs as what hydraulic filter has .
