Hi there, new to the forum. I was hoping to see if anyone can tell me what kind of tractor I have? We inherited the tractor from my in laws . All I know about it is that it’s been about 7-8 years since it has last run and according to my wife her dad rebuilt the engine and painted it. It is a 6 cylinder gas engine. I have tried researching and looking on google images and my best guess is that we have a 190? However on the image search I don’t see any 190s with the same grill (4 holes). Can anyone identify what I have or tell me where to find model numbers? I need to know so I can know what parts to look for. I need to replace all of the fuel lines because they are badly dry rotted and leaking. The other problem I have is there is no battery in the box. What battery do I need? I pulled the battery from my ford bronco to see if it would turn over and the 750 cca was not enough. Sorry for the long post, I’m just hoping to get some information so I can get this thing running soon. It could really come in handy for some chores around the property this spring. Thanks in advance!

It is a 190, missing the grill, that is why the four holes show.

battery might have been 1000 amps............. but the motor is only 300 cubic inches... A good 750 amp should turn it over fine........ check cables / ground / starter motor.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Welcome to the Forum. That's a nice looking tractor and loader. Was it sitting inside or out for those 7-8 years?

Thanks for the replies guys. I will check the starter and cables when I get time. It has been sitting outside the whole time which is why everything is so dry rotted. I have a feeling I’m going to be replacing a lot of parts on this thing. Just trying to get it running first!

The serial/model number is on the left side of the clutch housing.
The battery box will hold 2 group 30 batteries. You probably can use 1 battery on a gas. I have a 180 diesel with only one battery and have run one battery on my 190XT diesel when I had one fail.

Wow!! That is one really nice looking tractor. I have no idea what it is since I stopped selling in 1962. I cannot believe that it has been sitting outside for that long.
It is a family tractor and deserves excellent care.
Wish I could be more help.
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!

Looking at the pictures again, that may be a 200. That looks like a 200 cab without air conditioning.

Definitely a pre 1968 190 or 190XT because it has the early style side panels under rhe hood and that is not a 200 factory cab. Looks like a Year-A-Round or something similar.

It's hard to tell for sure but the axle looks to be the small axle which would make it a 1964 190 or a 1965 190 or 190XT.

If your axle measures 2-3.4" it is a '64 or '65. If it measures 3-1/4" I'd say it's a '66 or '67 model.

I, like Bill Long, don't have any idea what it is, but that is a VERY nice clear picture.  I too  can't believe that it has sat outside all that time and looks that good!!
Check for the serial number, that'll help define which tractor it is.

I agree, nice looking tractor. If I were to guess, I'd say it's in Eastern Colorado? I guess we're spoiled out here on the Great Plains, as it's fairly common for machines to look like that after sitting out their whole lives, especially machines from the '70s/'80s. A little bit of wax and things really shine up. I've been told it's the same in Eastern Washington and the Palouse country.

Actually, we are in Colorado! However we are located in northern Colorado in the foothills near carter lake. I found a number under the cab on the left side it reads AM 4982-11. I’ll post a picture. Is this the number I’m looking for? Do you guys know how to read it?

I’m hoping to mess around with it a little bit today. I picked up a fuel filter and some new fuel lines. It looks like somebody bypassed the sediment bowl and put in an aftermarket fuel filter for better filtration. So today I’m gonna see if I can get fuel and get it to crank. Thanks to everyone for all the great info!

Burton Bronco, welcome to the AC forum. Your photo’s number is a part number, not a serial number. On the left side, try looking where the rear of engine plate bolts to clutch bell housing. If it’s a One-Ninety XT diesel, then it’s serial number will be stamped into the clutch bell housing & read from its top or mid section, going downward. Mine reads like this
190 14445 XTD.

From a closer view of one of your tractor’s side photos, it’s loader’s rear frame may be close or possibly covering your tractor’s serial number on its left side?? So try looking just behind the loader for it.

Are you located just south of Rt34’s entrance into Thompson Canyon? If so, did the flood 3-4 years ago affect your FIL’s farm? I’ve driven thru or near your Loveland/Longmont area many times when I25 is a parking lot. Our son & his family live in Denver. He attended NCU Greeley.

Yes we are south of 34 but closer to the south end of Carter lake. I try to avoid I25 as much as possible lol. I was able to find the serial number right behind the bucket arm like you said. Here is a picture very hard to see but it says 190 6417. How do I read it? Does it mean I have a 64?

So I’ve replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter. Before filling it I wanted to see if I could get it to turn over. I threw a battery in and still can’t get it to crank. When I turn the key and hit the button you hear it click and then a buzzing sound. After a couple tries now it does nothing at all. The cables and connections seem to be in good shape, so do I have a bad starter?

Good job finding it! It’s a 1965, series one(I). Heres the serial numbers per years. You might try cleaning beyond the 6417 to see if it is a “XT” &/or “D”.
Series I
1964 1001-2484,
1965 2485-8218,
1966 8219-8626.    9004-13272(TI)
1967 13273-17784,19001-19261II
1968 19262-22153,23001-23233III
1969 23234-25900,
1970 25901-29135,
1971 29136-31056,
1972 31057-31117,

The click, could be the starter solenoid. You can jump across the solenoid (bypassing it you must be sure it's in neutral) to find out if the starter still works. If the solenoid isn't chattering when you try to start it, you may not be getting power to it. I think there is a safety switch on the clutch? If so, it has to be made' to put power to the solenoid.
The shiney part in the pic below, is the solenoid.

Starter could be dragging? But I’d guess that if it’s clicking, it needs a better ground(negative contact) and/ or your battery(s) have a low cranking load? Try using your vehicle to jump the tractor battery(s) as you try starting it. If that starts it then your ground is ok, but tractor battery is not.

Bad solenoid is a symptom of a weak battery.  If you want to see if it will roll over, take any good car battery, and hook it up temporary, The bigger the battery, the better, of course, just make sure it is good, and fully charged...Wink

You said it sat outside for 7 or 8 years could it have possibly gotten water down the exhaust and engine seized up.

That is one nice looking first series 190 AND WITH AIR! If it has the original PTO engaging lever you will hate that part. I think you can upgrade to the longer lever style pretty easily.

any chance you are using the key to start it?  You have to push the button to engage the starter.  Good luck and hope this helps.

I have tried two different car batteries and the same thing happens when I try to start. I turn the key on, push the button and I can hear the starter click like it’s trying to engage. I tried bypassing the solenoid and same thing. It seems to me like it could be binding up. I am positive it’s in neutral. I was going to try to turn the engine by hand but it doesn’t look like there’s any room to get a ratchet in there unless you remove the radiator. Any thoughts? I guess I could pull the starter and see if it turns while it’s out
