Clay, I think logic and reality has nothing to do with what we are dealing with here on this thread.

This country is down the drain already if a bunch of you don't think carbon taxes and all kinds of BS taxes THAT MAKES GAS MORE EXPENCIVE is not political. If it is not political what is it.
California still pumps more crud than most states, but politicians are working over time to stop it. New law passed closes any well closer than 3200 feet of home, schools, and public health facilities. Several schools where very happy years ago to have a producing oil well on school grounds in LA/ southern Calif. A quick look says Ca is the no. 6 oil producing state in the USA. The cheaper places in Paso Robles are 4.60 today.

Got two 20 pounders for bout $16 each!! I caught the dude that was refilling and he whispered that the price would be lower in the next day or so,,,!I ain't seen them this low in years!

Sadly, the local "Murphy"/Walmart jumped to $3.39 yesterday, but has already come down to $3.24 this afternoon, the oil barron's can see the "writing-on-the-wall" and are bilking the end user for every penny that they can IMO

Got that factoid wrong again, Oil Barons’ do not get rich off gas pricing the raw oil producers do. After transport of raw crude purchase of raw crude investments in equipment and manpower to break that crude down then store it to sell to wholesalers the refiners make less than $1.00 a barrel, still billions but hard worked for. The end sellers buy at wholesale build the shops to sell the products stockpile or run trucks for delivery making pennies per gallon, of base oils lubricants and fuels. End retailers make so little on fuels as to be scary, if the small stores do not sell the snacks soda coffee and trinkets they actually run in the red.

Indeed. Local retailer is cutting hours. Margin on gas is not the problem as they are in line or better than many other stations. Not enough walk in traffic for convenience items

...and a year ago demand was low. There were no planes flying and no cruise ships sailing. At least we aren't back to the $4/gallon from 2008.

Surprised to see the price fall about 5-10 cents this week. I guess uncorking the national reserves did do a little.

Never actually released any of the reserves yet
OPEC and the Saudis bumped production just as more Covid bad news hit where oil per barrel dropped 10%. Short lived. |

Prices are all over the board here. Went out to Hudson, CO yesterday, about 40 miles east, saw gas anywhere from $3.69 to $2.78, The higher prices were near the I25 interstate but less then a mile away it was $2.99. Diesel hasn't dropped much yet, I heard that because the winter hasn't been that cold, diesel (heating oil) prices should drop a bit.
