I'm looking for pulling info on these. I just got a D14 and I have some questions about it and what differences there are from the D15.

1. I know that I can get over bore 3.562 sleeves and pistons for it but, can the 3.625, D15 sleeves, be made to work?

2. The Nebraska tested HP for the D14 is 34, the D15, 40 and the D15II, 46 The C/R are, respectively, 7.5,7.75 & 8.0. I can see the 2000 rpm cam, .25 C/R and 1" (over the D14 7/8") carb giving a 6 hp increase and the D15II seems to get a additional 6 HP with a .25 compression increase and 11 more CI. Did they change the intake manifold and/or did they make any other changes?

3. When I change to the D15 cam, will I have to change the governor weights or can I increase the rpm with a stronger spring?

4. Has anyone modified the crankshaft to a longer stroke than the standard 3 7/8"?

There doesn't seem to be much info on this engine or these D14/15 tractors as a puller. The Nebraska tests indicate there is a real potential for these tractors, with the D15II, being able to pull 6150 lb.

D-15 s2 has a carb very much like a D-17, so it is BIGGER than the other two. To make D-15 s2  G-160 sleeves fit into the older G149 engine, you'd have to bore the block at a minimum. Not sure about sleeve orings.

In the Nebraska tests, they list both the SI & SII as having 1" carb. Is the venturi larger on the SII and is the manifold the same or a different part #? Any difference in the valve sizes?

If I ever come up with a 175 carb for my D17, I can use the D17 carb on the D14 or is there something that won't allow it?

The Series II engine (160 CID) has the o-Ring grooves are machined into the block.  All others- The 138/149 engines have the O-ring grooves on the sleeves. To do much with any of these the first question is "How much money have you got? " No one has really done much Hi-Performance engineering on these motors as has been done with the 201/226 blocks. 
  Next consider how heavy the D14/15 tractors are compared to the W_ tractors.  I'm not saying that one couldn't be made to preform, however you're starting with a lot less to begin with. 
  The real thing to do is put the D15II engine into a D10 or CA and run the 2500 pound class. 
   Although if you're just going to pull the Grampa gear classes, just find how much weight it needs to hook it to the ground.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

D-17 Marvel-Schebler carb could be made work on a D-14, but would require throttle shaft mods. A 175 venturi can be installed in that D-17 carb.

Thanks Doc. I checked the throttle arm. The 14 is longer and in the opposite direction as the 17 but, I may be able to make arm for the 17 carb, we'll see. It's hard to tell if the bolt spacing is the same w/o taking the carbs off but, it's close, I'll have to check that, too and I may also have to bore the manifold.

Do you think I can get the 2000, loaded rpm with just a heavier spring?

Paul, I'm only looking to pull in the 3 & 5 mph classes. I run my D17 in the 6000 class, my 850 Ford is working well in the 5000 class so, I'll be starting the D14 in the 4000 class with the 16.9 x 26's if I can find another 26" PA. Other wise it will be with the Field and Road 14.9's on the odd 6 bolt, rim and centers.

It looks like I'll have to bore the sleeves to 3.562 and have some higher compression flat top? pistons made. I could maybe bore more than that. It will depend on how thick the sleeves are.

All my D-14s have 8 bolt, 8" BC rims ,some PA , some combine rims....
considering how rare good, SOLID PA rims are, why not us combine rims ?
