Randeleky:  Just as you say:  On the top of the front frame under the grill.  Prithee, where do I look for the year of manufacture.  Thanks a lot!

My HD4 has the number on the front flat part of frame ahead of the grill piece - right side when facing fromt of machine - they were partially covered by the metal grill guard or metal plate bolted into front of machine

Check the front of the torque tube just behind the engine oil filter . mine is on the end where the engine block and tube connect. should say HD4  _____
Most are just in front of the front grill on flat frame in the middle of it.

The old AC HD4 appears to be a model from somewhere in the 70's.  One source indicated the numbers would be on the lower frame on the front of the dozer, but were not.   Have been unable to find a placard or numbers anywhere else.  Would numbers from the  engine give a clue as to the date of manufacture?
