    Posted: 17 Jul 2010 at 2:37am
My latest addition, a 190 XT diesel, decided to start leaking right where it goes into the head. I pulled the injector (its the #1), and put on a new copper washer, and that didn't help. Still leaking a black diesely oily fluid. Any ideas where to go on it from here?    TIA, Darrel

I agree with DrAllis. Had the same problem with are 7000 and though it was the injector and it was valve cover gasket.

I guess I shouldn't post questions at the wee old hours of the morning after three nights of baling and very little sleep. I guess you guys figured out that I meant to say that the #1 injector was leaking right  where it goes into the head. But I'll check the valve cover gasket and go from there. Thanks. Darrel

the oil from valve cover leaks into the injector bore, then oozes out. If it were only a fuel leak, it wouldn't be black. the copper gasket under the injector doesn't seal fuel anyway, it seals the combustion chamber.

thanks for the help guys. I checked the valve cover bolts yesterday, and they were loose. I tightened them up for now, but will change the gasket as soon as I can get to it.  Darrel
