 Topic: trailer ramp springs

I am thinking about putting ramp assist springs on my trailer. I have bobcat ramps and need a gorilla to lift them up. I have found some but they install on the rail which I don't have. Looking for suggestions. I should have had them put on when they built the trailer as my wife reminds me.

Some use a coil spring that counterbalance ramps - shaft or pin that ramps hinge on go through the center of coil spring with spring tension counterbalanceing the ramp .

I guess I did not know there was one by that brand name. But I don't have rails. Coke I have seen the coil spring type and was wondering if they work?

My dad had the same problem with the ramps on his lowboy when he loaded his dozer, he had a chain fashoned to the ramps and at first he would load the dozer on the lowboy just past the ramps, get off, hook the chain to the back of the dozer, pull the dozer forward and let it pull the ramps up. Later on he made a hook that he could drop as he was loading that would catch the chain and he didn't have to get off until it was loaded and the ramps were up.

The torsion springs are what I have considered and would be by far the easiest to install.

please be sure to OIL the torsion springs with a 'thick' oil or rust check OFTEN, both when 'open' and when 'closed'. it ain't fun when one of them breaks..
