In my quest of either finding a flex head for my M, or getting another combine, I have found an outfit that sells an adapter plate to convert R series headers to mount on L/M combines. You need the earlier models with self contained hydraulics. Are they much nicer to use than the series 2 or 3 headers?? Thanks.

Not true. You can buy the oil pump drive and put it on a new head. We have a complete set up from our 8030 head. We ran a 530 on an 81 N6. We traded it for the 8030 we have now. The oil pump drive was transfered for one to the other. When the N6 was traded for the R62, the oil pump was taken off and place in a box in the corner of the shed, just waitting for you to come along.
So you could go out and get the latest and greatest head that Gleaner makes with the full fingered auger, our oil pump, and your M and get along just fine. We even have parts and wiring for the 3position header heighth control.
