Hello All!
I have an HD4 in bad need of some tracks. As we all know they are not available anymore. I was looking at the difference in the Case 450 tracks and the HD4 tracks and they seem very close. Has anyone tried this and what are the thoughts? Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Close only counts in Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades - after that you would have to know the pitch and bushing size ,width of rails outside and inside as well as height .
It might be possible to have rear sprocket cut and a case sprocket welded onto AC disc - thing is also the diameter of sprocket so track rides on lower rollers and not above or below sprocket OD |

Coke-in-MN...I have done a little research for what I can find online. I have the specs for the HD4 rails (see picture above), but not the Case 450. I did find some specs for Asian replacement rails for the Case 450 chains (the other pic). This is how it works out. Pitch 152.4 mm same on both. Bushing HD4 47.7 mm / Case 47.0 mm Outside width HD4 125mm / Case 137.4 mm Inside width HD4 62mm / Case 69.4 mm Height HD4 82.5 / Case 88.9 mm I was hoping someone had tried this before, and could give me some insight as to what issues they had. |

From that list of inside and outside widths looks like your first problem would be rollers and front idler and whether you can get wider lower rollers into the track frame.

If was going this far would look to D3B/931B 6.125 rails and rebuild the trucks /sprocket rings for Cat as to better available where even worn HD4 rails are close to these as new.

Front Idlers I think I can weld up fairly easy to make up the difference. Lower rollers my be an issue. I will have to check.

No I do not. May be able to get those thru a cat dealer as to dimensions. All I have is rail height 84mm, bushing almost 47mm and pitch 6.125. The D3C and D4C went to 88mm height 50mm bushing but still 6.125 pitch. Both had 14" shoes available. I just do not have link width ID or OD.

I know on my old D6-9U I coulld not find track and it was easire to convert it to D5 track and sprockets (segmented sprocket ring welded to D6 spokes) as width and inside width fit the 6 rollers and front idler fine.
The thing is if you find that track to fit you still need sprocket conversion as well as at least 2 flanged rollers on front and back of lower rail to keep track aligned for sprocket and front idler |

Thanks for the lead Tracy, but Blount didn't have anything.
I have a different plan....I think. I have all the pins and bushings I bought a while back that I would need for both tracks. I found enough links right and left for one track (I haven't ordered yet) I am looking now, but haven't found enough links for the other side. I am thinking about replacing pins and bushings in old rails, and then building up the old rails with weld. I know it is not the best, but it may be my best option. Of course I will have to inspect bottom rollers also. I knew I had a final drive problem on left side and needed to pull track and inspect the damage. Hence the reason for wanting to fix track now (I hate double work). I pulled track off today and found that I need an axle (was welded together before). Does anybody have an extra axle laying around???

Way late to this conversation, but I've got good tracks I'll probably have on Ebay in the next couple months.

Thanks for the offer. I sold the dozer back in the spring. If I still had it I would have tried to get them.
