    Posted: 12 Jun 2010 at 5:53pm
Today I took my none working gas gauge out hoping to fix it with a new float (based on another recent post).  However, my gauge needle does not move as I manually rotate the float rod.  What next?  The gauge unit appears sealed--any way to fix?  Does anyone rebuild these gauges or sell new ones (or working used ones).  Thanks.

Paul - I thought the gauges were magnetically coupled so there wasn't another seal of some kind required on the shaft.  If so, it's possible the magnet on the back hooked to the shaft has become de-magnetized.   Take some other kind of hand held magnet to the back of the gauge and see if you can get the needle to move.   If you can, it's a matter of getting the back side re-magnetized.  Not sure the best way to do that.  Mike

I had the same problem....the needle gets stuck after setting in one position for so long. In my case, it wasn't from becoming de-magnetized. I drilled a 1/16" hole at the bottom, front, just below the glass lense ....through the pot metal bezel. Sprayed some WD40, then a piece of wire through it to work it free. Did this seveal years ago and haven't had a problem with it since.

Hope this helps

I suggest contacting Hurtt Equipment (www.hurttequipment.com).  While I live in Illinois, I visit ND often for work and they have been very good and helpful to me with parts and help.  I have a WD and on of my co-workers in ND farms with D-series AC's and Hurtt is where we both get our parts.  I heard they sold the dealership but the website is still active.

I have seen where Mark Heitman has them advertised in his ads. He would be a good guy to buy from. I thin he may advertise in Old Allis News. Someone else may have his phone number handy.

Hurttequipment was sold to Butler but is supposed to keep operating with the same staff, I think the change is effective July 1.
