How are the ends of the oil pan gaskets (side and end) supposed to mate up? Are they supposed to be trimmed, tucked in, smashed together, or what? This is a D17 Series I.

What did you trim? The side gaskets flush with the end gasket? The end gasket flush with the rim?

I trimmed the side gasket over the rim gasket and applied a thin layer of non hardening rtv on the pan side and at the overlap.

So is there a difference in the 17 compared to the WD and 45 pan gaskets? The instructions for them say Do Not trim the gasket. It is to be squeezed in place.

I don't know. No where have I seen any mention of trimming either the end or the side gasket, but squeezing all that together looks like an invitation to a problem. Two fellows have successfully taken the trimming approach. I'm nervous about this because I want this to be the last time this job needs to be done for a long time. |
