A few weeks ago I asked and received great advice about an AC 5050 with a loader, Thanks!! I passed on the 5050 with loader, it was somewhat rougher up close than from the road and the asking was just too steep at $11,500!! If anyone would like more info on the 5050 drop me an email. I looked at a 6060 today. Seems to be in decent shape with 18.4-28 rubber at 40% and very little wear on the 3 point hitch. Drawbar is worn dramatically! Hole not bad but the top of the bar is worn by about 3/8 of an inch!! What should I look for in this tractor? I think going with a bigger machine would allow me to move up to a 4 row planter and do more of my own primary tillage so I have some genuine interest in this tractor.
Thanks, Al |

Al THe 6060 is a lot more tractor, they are good machines with a genuine AC engine. The main thing to look for is to see that it had the factory update kit when it was still under wty. The kit was for an external thrust bearing at the front of the engine. This was needed because the PTO brake on the FIAT tranmission put undo load on the AC thrust brg. Cal in Ct.

You want to determine how many hours are on the engine since the last overhaul. My 6060, new in 1982 (if my memory is correct) wore holes in the sleeves with about 2300 hrs on it. That overhaul lasted till total time of 8200, then the rings broke and I lost a cylinder most of the time. Don't plan on getting much more than about 4000hrs out of a fuel pump/injector overhaul. Get rid of the 18.4 28 as soon as you can, I ordered mine with them and changed them to 16.9 34 later and that is when it finally started to pull a lot more like the 180 I replaced it with. Very economical engine to run. Had a Ac loader on it till about 6500 hrs, went through some front wheel bearings, tires and one clutch about 4000hrs. Make sure you keep the hydraulic oil screen clean in the bottom of the rear end. The transmission fluid is separate from the rear end/hydraulic fluid. It will pull your four row planter well. I pulled a 7000 deere with 6-30s two years with dry fertilizer. Duals helped a lot.

Is it a FWA, I have 2 of them, both have 460 loaders on them, the 6060 is a gutsy tractor, I have had one since new it had 83 HP when new now it has 76 HP with 8400 hours on it (the engine has never ben worked on). Ours has 18-4-28 on the rear and 12-4-24 on the front, in 4+4 it will out pull a 180 or a 190, other than replacing the cluch we have had no major repars.
