Just curious how big of impliments my 170 gasser can handle in loam/clay, like what size 1200 field cultivator or 2200 disc? Also will a d-19 diesel handle a six row corn planter in the same soil? thanks

I'm sure the other will correct me if I'm wrong but my guess is you need to put the planter on the 170 and hook the tillage tools to the D-19. The 19 should have the most power of the two.

My 180 is a bit bigger in HP and bulk, I pull a old JD 4 row planter with ease, a eight foot Bush hog mower or a 12 foot IH disc(2200#). I have not put a bottom plow behind it as yet but I suspect it will do a 3 bottom 14" fairly readily.

The 170 should be good for 12 ft disc as it is rated at 54 hp drawbar

A D-17 gas can handle 3-14" plow in some pretty tough going.

I used to pull a 6row International planter with a rake on it with a WD45 that was overbored and had duals. Also some of the ground was muck.

We also have a D-17 Series IV pulled 4 -14" mounted, light front end and not great on rolling ground. Went to 3 -16" with crowfoot packer and did a great job.

Have no problem pulling a 22" breaking plow (modified from a trip bottom to an Allis SC hitch comliments of a parts plow and the local fab shop) and a 16' John Deere disc (12" discs, tandem gangs) with my D19D. Its a brute.

k I was just curious cuase id like 2 get a field cultivator to match either the 170 or 19 along with a lighter disc to put in soy beans and wheat cuase i cant afford to upgrade to a notill drill for a while, but im getting ready to buy a no-till corn planter and would like to get a 6 row (if the 19 will handle it) now instead of a 4 row for the 170 so i wont have to upgrade as fast when i grow in acerage.

KY, you are thinking like I am. I'm pretty certain I could pull a 6 row planter behind a D-14 with no problem whatsoever. I can't see why a 170 couldn't pull it like there was nothing back there. That leaves the D19d to do the heavy lifting.
