I have had the tractor for about 20 years, it has always run well.
I ran it this winter using the snow-blower about 20 hours and was cutting grass for about 2 hours this weekend (at full throttle the grass was wet and high)... when suddenly it began back firing through the carb and won't tolerate any load at all. I limped back to the garage and thinking I got a bit of garbage in the carb took it apart and cleaned it. I reset the idle and high speed screws at 2 turns out each but there was no improvement. The fuel is new, the plug is new.... When started from cold it idles nicely for about thirty seconds and then starts to burp and back fire, it can't take the load of moving without bucking and sounding awful. I have done what I can....any ideas? Thanks |

When was the last time that you changed the points and condensor?
Or, the flywheel key is sheared ever so slightly to throw the timing off. That's the first thing that comes to my mind. Checking those things. HTH. Jim

Hmmmmm.... fuel is new. Possibly a bad batch of fuel sounds like to me to all of a sudden run lousy. I would drain the tank, and add fuel from another can or source and then give it a whirl again. Make sure you drain the carburetor. Couldn't hurt to add a dash of dry gas to it also just in case you got the bottom of some gas stations tanks... HTH
