Just have a few issues, first whenever ya let out on clutch under a load the throttle surges i believe it just needs a new gov spring but any input would be great. Also put a new button clutch from dennys carb shop in. The clutch never slipped before i just didn't want to have to take engine out again later. So now the clutch button clutch slips whenever its ib third gear it and i pull brakes it jusf bogs engine down to a point then does nothing, hand clutch had never slilpped before. do you think it could be habd clutch or pressure plate springs?

If the PTO shaft keeps turning when the tractor stops moving, it's the HAND clutch that is slipping. I doubt it's the foot clutch if you have a 4-button style.

Only problem is i took the PTO off a long time ago haha any other ideas on how to test? It is 4 button type

Do you have an anti surge spring on the rod going from the governor to the carb?  IF not, that is what is causing your surging issue.  AGCO still carries them.  Attach one end to a hole in middle of the rod and hook the other end to one of the manifold studs above it.

I took my hand clutch out as it slipped when pulling. Everyone I talked to said they rarely hold up under that much load.

I used the opposite side shaft and drum.

I'm thinkin its hand clutch because it spun left wheel in 3rd gear then when i pulled left brake to get the right to spin one of the clutches slipped that sounds like it happened when i tried to put a load n that axle and i got that right axle with the clutch slippin.

Shaft from a c will not work you need a axle from the left side of a Ca.

This tractor is basically an expirement to prove you can build a good tractor for less than $750 so i think just to keep things cheap I'm gunna bolt the clutch together or weld it has anyone had problems with this?

Doing that messes it up for putting it back to stock.

This tractor is too rough and too far gone to ever be put back to stock i cut off or took off anything that wasn't necessary for making it run to make it lighter so I'm not worried bout puttin it back to stock i bought it for $300. in.a.fence row and sold the parts i took off for $200

I bolted hand clutch and still slips with brand new clutch but it still has stock pressure plate springs so i assume that is all that an be wrong with it, does anyone know where i can get tougher springs for one?

Have your clutch man put in the lavender colored clutch springs. Should hold with them in.

I don't have a clutch man, i am 17 and work on my own stuff i have built the tractor by myself from day one. Where would i order stiffer springs for it?

Look up hy-capacity clutches. Idk if they sell to individuals or not, but im sure they could tell ya who your closest dealer is for them.

I have heard of putting smaller springs inside of the existing springs has anyone tried that?

Your hand clutch is your problem. Get rid of it, or figure out how to maybe (somehow) bolt it solid. Maybe there's a way to drill one hole clear thru the pressure plates and the disc so it cannot ever slip.

I drilled through it and put 3 bolts in it and button clutch slips so springs are the only thing it could be i just would like to make springs stiffer where would i purchase stiffer springs or kits to beef them up?

A 5/8" or 3/4" lock washer down inside of each spring cup will stiffen your existing springs. Clamp the lock washer in a vise and take the twist out of it so it lays flat.

One in every spring cup would be a nice start. You can add too many, so that the clutch won't even release. How many springs does it have ..6???

Yes it has 6 springs, i already have the engine in now and will have to take it out to put washers in the pressure plate and don't want to do that a couple times haha. Will one washer make the difference or should i go ahead and put 2? Also will i have to adjust the fingers?

You may have to adjust the fingers to get the pressure plate torn apart, so yes you might have to adjust them when reassembling. If you drop in two shims, the springs cannot be collapsed when you bolt the pressure plate back onto the flywheel. There has to be some small gap between each coil to be able to release.

I heard from many others that Denny's Carb shop is quick to take your money and slow to give any help if things aren't right, Just a thought. As for the axle clutch, if it's rebuilt right it will hold more that a stock 149 can ever do. I've done many of them and can stall whatever power is out front. But for a pulling tractor just put in a LH shaft and loose the weight of the clutch pack.
